I am a weddings & large event florist only. I have worked in retail shops in the past with over 20 yrs. experience but decided to specialize. I am currently in my 3rd year. So far I have been really lucky to have very sweet brides (no bridezillas!).

Hi Floralyn!

Do you mainly focus on fresh weddings or do you also create silks too? Do you rent equipment and silks?

I find that a lot of event florists have a large stock of brass candleabras, arches and things. Sure would need good storage!

I notice that you charge a 2.5x markup on fresh flowers and 2x on hardgoods, but no labor charges...

This leads me to believe that you work from your house...or don't have any overhead..do you have a business licence, pay business taxes and zoned for business??

If you click on her name and then click on Visit Homepage....there is a website. When you go to google maps and put in the address and then click street view it appears to be a residential addresses. Just my observations....

oh thank you, I find it interesting that someone would put on their website what they markup. That is why I was surprised you knew that info. Is this normal practice?

I do pay taxes and have a business license. I am currently working out of my home but plan on expanding to a retail site within the next year or two. I have a large workroom with a walk in cooler & a two door cooler.
I am trying to compete with a lot of larger more traditional florist which is why I advertise lower prices.
I love what I do and am hoping that business will continue to grow!
