Just back from a design show at one of my wholesalers this weekend. This morning's demonstration was given by Sharon McGukin AAF, AIFD, PFCI. She showed Christmas permanents and talked alot about the coming color trends. I really enjoyed it and brought back quite a few ideas! Probably one of the most informational shows I've been to. She did a great job!

She's the best. A little human dynamo...
Her new book,
"Flowers of the Heart" is great!
Great for brides to be for information.
Great for us florists on how to be the "wedding experts".
I really like how she's used the Oasis wire armatures as baskets & wreaths.
Sharon is a woman of tremendous talent and shares our passion for flowers.

I had the pleasure of working with her for the SCFA last year. Was in the work room helping her not knowing who she was till later at home I read her Bio. So glad I had the time to get to know her first before reading up,she is so personable, we spoke of being women, family, our shops every day stuff. The next morning,Connie(here on FC) was admiring a bridal bouq, on the cover of a book, Sharon says" Thank you thats my design" just so matter of fact way.She was working with a cast on her arm, had a fall doing a wedding, but we helped her turn out over 40 designs in the form of bridal designs, yea lot of wire too. What a nice person too.

Sharon is a dynamo. She was here a few years ago with a bridal presentation. As a matter of fact, I pulled the pics out to go on a memory board MSFGA is doing for our Fall Show with her in them!

It was my privilege to work in the design room with her at our SCFA convention in 2008. She's delightful and very talented.

Oops! Elmo already posted this.

sharon is one of those in the industry that is always "giving back".
i've watched her talents at state shows and on the national stage at saf. smooth and easy delivery and very professional.
she has a new wedding book out that everyone should check out.
i inquired on some wedding trends a while back and she sent me tons of stuff on the topic.
great lady.

Her knowledge of trends and forcasting and the tools they use to determine those forcasts was amazing. She gives her presentation in plain English so every level of designer to sales person to owner can come away from her show with something new.

I've always wondered how someone that gives shows and lectures keeps in touch with what is relevant to the average florist. I see many of them that had a shop in the past but haven't for the last 15 years or so. I would find myself forgetting too much of what went before, with only a vague memory, except mechanics and the like. I've forgotten what it was like to juggle a job and raise children, and no, I'm not 70....yet.

I understand that they can network and talk to florists as they work, do any of them go back and spend time in shops, or do they rely on keeping in touch? I'm impressed with how they can present things that are so relevant to what is needed now. I can also understand being able to use the internet to see what other designers are doing, do they have favorite sites for current trends, and do any of them travel to visit other designers?

Sharon does have a shop in Ga. I'm amazed how they keep up the pace of all the travel and family.

Sharon working it with a cast on. Not one whine from this lady of grace. Talk about a designer of example, she gave advice and encouragement to all on a level that not one person would have a problem relating to.
