We used to be FTD members but I ended that relationship 18+ months ago.

However, just had a 'phone call from some-one claiming to be called Francisco and calling on behalf of FTD and would I mind answering a few questions.

"Why", I ask Francisco, "as had I dropped FTD?" The response is that we are aware you dis-continued your membership but we like to keep our records up-to-date in case we are looking for "non-member" florist willing to fill the occasional order for us!

I let him ask the very bland questions such as are you a full-service florist -to which I replied that I am surprised FTD is bothered with a question in 2011 looking at your behavior and which got a quick move to the next question; which days are you open; trading hours et cetera.

So why are FTD phoning and asking? This area is served by various existing "members" and if I were an FTD "member" florist I would be furious. Or was Francisco legit? The questions were so basic and general that one has to think that the caller was legit.

ANyone had a similar, recent, experience? Any ideas what they are playing at now?

Simon, I'd say they are looking for shops willing to fill orders. And just because your area has several members, that does not mean they have anyone that's willing to fill for FTD.coN....

So, in such a scenario, if one were to get an order from FTD to fill while not being a member, how would they pay you AND what would they pay you? Anyone know?

The "how" would be a company credit card....

The "how much" would be what ever you require of them to fill their junk. You could pretty much get the full amount, plus the $14.95 service charge if they're desperate.

Imagined as much but good to have your feed-back/comment. They really are scum

Case and point, we have a TF shop in our town who can't do a bunch of work (cubes, hand tieds, etc - no education) so they refuse and TF calls us direct.
100% on Visa or Mastercard, my price & delivery charge..
Bloomnet the same 100%, credit card, my price and delivery..
Yes they've been calling around to find out who's delivering on Mother's Day also... and yes, they use home personnel (who call from their homes)

Didn't realise this...so, IF you choose, you can get WS work without paying any of their fees.

Heh. We also got a call from Francisco on Monday. He asked the same questions and then asked if we'd like to set up an appointment for an FTD rep to visit our shop and explain their services.

Told him 'no thanks'.

AFAICT FTD is losing local member florists at a fast rate. They NEED flower shops - to fill last minute orders when it's too late to drop ship - and - as a major source of income. Been a while since FTD disclosed the numbers (at least 3 years?), but income from florists represented more than half their profits.

Thanks for the feed-back.

Noting the replies then, IF - a big IF but, seemingly, not impossible - florists dropped FTD (and TF), florists would gain the upper-hand and they'd be crawling out cut glass for our work on our terms.

I suppose we can dream......

i got several calls at valentines from FTD for us to fill orders for them, i said why don't you call "so and so" local FTD shop. they said they were unable to fill the order. i refused the order because I am suspisious by nature and deffinately not a fan of FTD - I hoped they got egg on their faces...
