I wanted to share my Dad's Grave stone with you (yes i'm wierd) This is another industry that technology has changed - for the better imho. Everything is done with computer's and lasers. The picture in the center is an actual picture of my Dad fishing (his #1 passion) My brother has the laser set up and did it. He can cut any picture or pattern on just about any surface. Make's for some great personalized gifts.
My Dad taught him woodworking but he's embraced technology instead of insisting the old way is the only way.

He also makes these pens. I loved this computer chip one, but he makes them from every kind of wood or antler too. They are made on a lathe

Another note; on the headstone - someone tried to talk my Mom out of using cursive because some day kids won't be able to read it. How wierd will it be that cursive could become hieroglyphics?

The grave stone is lovely, very personal. How personalized! Your mom must be very thankful to have such a talented son who.. and the pen what a neat idea!
Yes I can say that my teenage boys have a hard time reading cursive. They don't really teach it in school anymore and the teachers print everything. all the comments on papers and everything on the boards is printed.
