I was really sorry to hear he died so suddenly RIP Michael .
I loved his music One of my favourites is Man in The Mirror cos it has such lovely ideas that we can all make a difference in our own lives, others lives and the planet too .
What a great thought of hope .
A sad day with Farrah Fawsett's death earlier that day .
If you want to make the world a better place take a look at yourself and make a change

Can't recall the name of the song, but he wrote and or sang a song that was used in the stageplay "La Cage aux Folles"

That one would be my favorite of his latter songs.

Want to say Billie Jean, but there are so many great Jackson 5 and solos by him.

Sad day, I can't judge the guy for what he turned into and/or allegedly did, that poor kid was whipped to be a superstar by his parents and lost his childhood when he was, what, 5 years old?

I pretty much love them all.

My first 3 albums (actually cassettes) were Def Leppard Pyromania, Duran Duran Rio, and Michael Jackson Thriller. I got them and a walkman for my 12th birthday. And I thought I was hot stuff with my cassettes and walkman.

I love Man in the mirror too. Such a beautiful song

I really love the Off the wall album too.

Oh and I love the song Smooth Criminal. love that song.

I pretty much loved it all. I feel like I lost a friend....Like an old high school friend that you haven't seen in years, wonder what they are up to from time to time, and then when they pass, it's so upsetting. That's how I feel. I know I'm such a dork.
I really did grow up with Michael Jackson. Does anyone rememeber the Saturday morning cartoons with the Jackson 5 ?
I'm really bummed!

..... Woke up to the News this morning to hear of his death, Morning Radio here is totally devoted to playing all of his Songs, think I have now heard Billie Jean about 4 times already today.

My childhood was pretty sheltered as I grew up in a small town but when my parents made the move to the city when I was about 12-13? I remember being exposed to " hit" music for the first time... and Michael Jackson was at the top of my wow list. My very first "tape" was BAD.

Later on I remember dancing to MJ with my friends at Brisbane Nightclubs ( although very surprised I do remember some of those nights ;))

You know, after hearing just about all of his stuff on radio this morning, I can't say I have a favourite, they all remind me of different moments in my life. You really gotta admit he did influence all of our lives in one way or another.

Well, not sure about favorite, but 'Beat it' came out when I was of age and blushed each time I heard the song and hid.

Theres just so many it's hard to pick 1 or 2 but seeing them all I remember more I love .
Earth song is very powerful too I think.

Without a doubt it was Man in the Mirror. My sons were young then and I remember it coming on the radio in the car. We were singing along, somewhat on key, and when it ended we talked about the lyrics. We talked about what he meant and how we all could apply it to our own lives. When my oldest, now 22, found out last night that he passed, he called me and that was his memory also and still is his favorite Michael Jackson song.

Anyone remember the Thriller premiere on MTV? Cable had not yet come to Boston and all of my friends and brothers and sisters came over to watch it at my apartment. It was a huge event!

I also remember standing in line to buy the Thriller LP for my youngest sister, it was selling out everywhere and hard to find.

Favorite song is probably I'll Be There but all of his songs were great. When I hear his songs, I remember dancing to them in clubs in the early 80's...I think the DJ alternated between Michael and Madonna!

Sad that he died so young, sad that he became so eccentric and had so many legal problems but especially sad that he leaves three kids behind.

I get very consumed by music and loved listening to his music years ago. I didnt realise until today to be honest how much his music brought back so many memories and how many songs i LOVED!!

I am not commenting much on his controversial past as I wasn't there so i dont truly know what happened. And, he is afterall, someones brother, son and Father and if that was a member of my family it would be hard enough to deal with his death without reading negative reviews and comments.

Love Ben, Man in the Mirror, Earth Song and many others mentioned in this thread, so many memories and such a short lived life!

As has already been said, I can't pick a favourite. Thriller was the first album I ever owned (vinyl, of course) and it's the second music video I ever saw (after "We're Not Gonna Take It").

Andrew Sullivan offers this reflection on Michael's life, which is further expounded upon by Tim Challies in A Tortured Existence.

My favourites died years ago. I honestly cannot listen to his music without revulsion for the person he became.

What about the early days... ABC 123 ? He was a cutie then... Can still see him dancing to Billie Jean(80's)
I can remember when Elvis died thinking my girls wouldn't know of him, they do.He was what his father made him, a performer.
I pray for the children. I never understood all that any way. What did these women do, give birth and sell out?
