What would you be doing if you left the flowers business?

as for me...... i have no idea. maybe do some consulting for the industry...

I have contemplated this for all 25 years in the biz, especially at recession times...

The answer is I have no idea...I have never held another job...I never worked in a grocery store, I never was a waitress, every single job I had was in a flower shop...not sure what I could do other than this...my husband tells me I could do anything, but I am not so sure..

ya never realize just how much we're experienced at until you speak to a temp agency and list all of your qualifications...we do it all

customer service, scheduling, managing, inventory, buying and ordering, marketing, etc....we should be making triple:headbang:

That's what the hubby says...he says that with all I do I could probably run a fortune 500 company and have no strees doing it...I laugh hard when he tells me that...

It would have to be something where I could still be creative. Interior decorating, I used to sew when I was younger, maybe window treatments. Maybe write a book, teach a floral class, anything creative. I also sold hand made rugs once, interesting, pulling a room together with a rug.

I would do something mindless.

I have tried to leave...

I have worked at a fast food mexican place, I worked in the deli at a grocery store (total job from hell I might add) I worked for spudnuts making donuts, I worked in a church nursery taking care of children, a lot of responsibility, but kinda fun, especially when I got the 2 year olds or younger, I love babies....
I worked as the front desk manager at Marshall's. But my all time favorite non florist job I ever had was the easiest, checking groceries at a supermarket. I really loved that job, but it was brief, long story short is, I was working in floral department, then tried my hand at checking, then they decided for what I was getting paid to put me back in floral, but they gave me another raise.

So I would try really hard at getting a grocery store checker job. It was fast easy and When people complained it was totally out of my hands, and I didn't take it personally cause I didn't design any of it! HA!

I have a degree in journalism but I have worked in this flower shop forever. Can't imagine doing anything else but if the time came, I always wanted to work in the tourism industry. Probably because I love to travel and I love to talk about it! Gudrun

I would really like to run a shelter for animals....any kind of animal...they don't talk back, or complain and the love is unconditional...Of course I would have to make a fortune in the flower biz in oder to do this...so a few more years behind the bench for me

If I was not here in my shop I would want to work for someone else locally in their shop, but If I don't survive this ride, I really don't think there will be others around here surviving to be able to work or consult for. I guess I would try to get into the medical...nursing, EMT, nurses aide.

I've already been approached by one of the places I'm working for to be a banquet server to fill in the voids. I had my first day the other day and wanted to chew off my feet by the end of the night. It makes for a long day when you're there all day making the flowers then turn around, get dressed and serve all night. THEN you have to tear down as well! It ended up being a 16 hour day on my feet. Ugh. But then, it was good money so I think I'll keep doing it until things pick up.

I think I would be a graphic designer. Or something with marketing. I'm on the promotions committee with our downtown Mainstreet program and that part of it is exciting to me!

I think I would run screaming from any kind of responsibility, at least for awhile!
I have been at this for 20 years, before that I was in grocery (cashier, then customer service) so I would probably head in that direction. My degree is in accounting/business, but after all of this, I really have no desire to be "in charge" anymore. Let someone else worry!!

Would work with animals in some way. Help save the beached whales, help clean up the water birds that become victims of oil spill slicks, give the savages who club baby seals some of their own medicine, open a "last resort" and welcome older animals who have been abandoned by their owners, so that they could live out their lives in peace with love.
