A floral friend of mine is closing his shop on December 31st, 2009.
He had no problem ending his relationship with Teleflora but seems to be in a pissing match with FTDI over his new POS system and the balance due on their contract. (Not new news, ey?) He tells me he put $4K down and has a payoff left of another $4k, which he certainly does not have, nor can he afford to pay.
Seems a potential new buyer for his shop insisted on a POS system so the owner went ahead and made the POS investment and before he had a signed contract from the buyer. Then, the deal fell through.
The old owner signed the Mercury POS contract as the President of the "C" corp and he told the COLLECTOR at FTDI that was the case.
That collector insisted he had given them a personal guarantee and they had his signature to prove it.
The florist told them to FAX him proof of that since it was not the case and they have not provided that proof to date.
Bottom line is the "C" corp will be dissolved and I told him to pack up and mail the entire system back to FTDI technology with a return signed receipt requested, and simply walk away.
I remember a few other former FTDI shops having similar problems, so if anyone has the mail back address information, please let me know so that I can pass it along to my florist friend.
Sad state of affairs in our industry and retail mom and pop B&Ms in general during the deep deep recession.
