Who here has a tattoo? If you do, does yours ever irritate you? I find sometimes the one on my upper arm (near shoulder) is raised. Anyone here have that??

No tattoos here Aileen .I 'd worry about something like that happening to me .Have you got it long ?

Well this one I've had for....um...14 years. It's just black no color.

Do you have to get tattoos checked out if they get sore ?I'd say with 14 years there could'nt be a problem with it or can the time make a difference

Well I know you're supposed to worry when it's a fresh one. i.e. infection

I'm just curious if anyone has this going on with their tattoo over time. sometimes mine is raised up or a slight burn in one spot. I wonder if it's a nerve thing?? It's nothing to worry about too much just was curious. Also I wonder if it happens to those with color as well?? I've got a pretty big one on my back that is black and color (NO it isn't a tramp stamp!) ...I notice the black on that one is raised sometimes but the color isn't.

Anyone??

Aileen, I have one on my ankle a gldfish and bubbles...The black outline sometimes gets raised, usually if the humidity goes up...never hurts but sometimes gets a bit itchy, irritated...I was told it is somewhat common and is a reaction within your skin because the dye is not supposed to be part of the environment, Kind of like an allergic reaction, your body is attacking the dye because it sees it as something not supposed to be there...

Lori, that is interesting. I haven't heard of that. Thanks..that does make sense. I wonder why only the black ink does it and not the color??

Five here....

Once in a great while, I'll get a little itch but I attribute it to other stuff... not the Tat itself...

I don't even know if what I just told you is fact..I was just given that info when I asked about my raised lines...take it for what it is worth...

Mine has been doing this for years since I got it and never had it get infected or even go more that a few days like that..

Yeah mine has been doing this for years as well and I haven't stepped into a tattoo place in years!! So I've not asked. Mine never got infected either when they were fresh.

Speaking of itches BOSS....I'm getting the itch to get another one. Of course mine can be very well hidden when it's work time!

I have to agree with Lori on that. I think that it is an allergic reaction to the dye.

I also want to make everyone aware that the cute "henna" tatoos you can get at the beach in those "surf shops" are NOT real henna but a form of Black Hair Dye. (Read the caution section on a box of black hair dye and you will see that it is very dangerous. I clearly warns you to keep it OFF of your skin.) It can be VERY dangerous and cause severe reactions. I did some research on them because my son got one a couple of summers ago and started having a reaction to it. ONLY REAL henna is safe and natural. Real henna is light in color and is very temporary. So, if you are going to the beach this summer, stay away from the fake henna tatoos!

I have a wrap around Dragonfly that circles my upper arm, I did it for Marcy.

Meanwhile, Marcy has her exhusbands name in Chinese symbols tattooed just above her hinnie crack. That's not hot.

oooh...I'm sorry! :wide:

Butterfly on the belly. Originally it was a flower. It was the flower in my Grandad's logo (made the K in his flower shop logo). He wore that logo on a charm on his necklace, and handed out embroidered K flowers to any pretty girl or child (four of the six daisy petals made the K). Anyway, I got the tattoo two days after he died.

Then I had two pregnancies back to back about five years later. Totally stretched the @@@@ tattoo out and it looked like crap. (never listen to a tattoo guy that says it'll stretch right back and look the same!). So then I tattooed a larger butterfly right on top. Looks better now. You'd never know there was a tattoo underneath.

Thom... that may be the solution to Marcy's!!

Aileen, I would go to a dermatologist. Regular skin screenings are important anyway and paid for by most insurance co's. Make the appt for a skin screening and ask about the tattoo then. I went for the second time last summer. The first time was about 4 years earlier and all was fine. This time they removed 5 moles and two came back "abnormal" (could lead to skin cancer). After two more trips to the plastic surgeon to get more skin cut out, I got the all clear. My tanning bed days are over, boo hoo.
