I am curious,

We have a wide range of people here at FC.

I would like to know who of you design and who of you here at FC do something else in the shop.

For me, I do a lot of things. Maybe too many, but that is another discussion, but for now....

Buy, HR, Design, Grow, Deliver, Market, Process, IT, etc....

I am most interested in hearing from those of you who do not design. I want to know how you contribute to your shop.

Thank you in advance
Joe

Joe we are a very small shop. I design, wash buckets, deliver, do IT, buy, answer phones pretty much what ever needs doing. Since we have gotten busier and we have hired one other designer I don't design as much. Which does give Jo and I both a little more time for marketing, designing and setting up new displays, future planning etc.

Jo, designs, washes buckets, buys, prices, HR, does a lot of the book work though we have a book keeper that comes in once per week to help keep things straight and be sure everything is ready at the end of the year for the accountant to do the taxes.

Everything but design ...

Last few years mostly marketing, IT, accounting, delivery dispatch, and smooching corporate clients.

I don't design, never done a dozen roses.
I do the rest tho, with the exception of visiting clients - I'm a back room kinda guy that does bookeeping, payroll, accts rec & pay, IT, marketing, web programming, and most of our online order processing. Oh yeah I often (couple times a week) deliver just because I love doing it. And nowadays I wash buckets a couple times a year.

I eat sticks of butter, wrapped with pancakes...just like Homer. Mmmmmm....pancakes!

Having never watched the Simpsons you have given me quite a visual for the day.... thanks a heap. ;)

Anything and everything. Whatever needs to be done. Some things better than others.

Designer, Cleaner, Shop Assistant, Customer Service, Bucket Cleaner, Driver, Sales, Marketing, Manager, Plant Waterer, Display Organizer, Bookkeeper (my worst hat), etc etc. I can do anything that needs to be done.

My hubby, who can wrap a rose, or a simple loose cut, arrange a dozen roses ..... but I wouldn't say he can arrange /design (yet). He delivers, helps customers at the counter, phones, anything mechanical or construction related - and he's great at just talking to people, PR. He's my dream delivery person, who wishes people happy birthday when he hands over the flowers. Won't let customers leave without signing into our guest book, etc etc. The ladies in the retirement villages love him - I get phone calls all the time about "the nice young man who delivered". Yesterday, he got a kiss on the cheek from a young lady after giving her a rose at an open house where we were set up for the day. He's a keeper.

Everything here...what ever is necessary...

Design...YES, but these days most of my design stuff is Special Events and teaching design to other staff....everyone in our store is being taught how to do simple things, like Roses...(JB you can drop by anytime) and mixed vases...

My sisters and I design and do everything else,my Dad runs the front counter, delivers, deals with the town politics, and plays tactical ops while pretending to work hard at the computer(he thinks we don't know). He is the boss though! As long as he keeps busy, fine by me! I did have a weird dream last night he was designing-that WAS a weird dream!

Dude, think you can teach me to make a doz roses look good? That's no small challenge!

I don't design but I do clean flowers, route deliveries build displays , pay all the bills handle the payroll, maintain the vans and handle the marketing. I probably could be a decent desinger if I chose to design but frankly after having a near life ending event 6.5 years ago I much rather do a little less and spend more time out in mother nature.

all of it along with keeping grandchildren in line (raised two daughters amongst the carnations now two granddaughters). Bookkeeping is my worst subject as when I'm done with all the rest of the daily things, that's the last thing I want to do. Husband lasted about 4 months in the business before I kicked him out to find another job, cause he was a pain (too slow at what he was trying to design). That was 32 years ago !! Now he "cares" for my coolers only.

Design, buy, customer service, book keeper (ugh!) train and shop therapist-LOL! (Doesn't EVERY shop need one!) GArbage taker outer, computer stuff, everything but delivery!

Do it all....but don't do Wedding or prom work - don't have the patience for it.

I leave 99% of the designs to the designers...that's what I pay them for. But, in a pinch, I can design almost anything. My creative "skills" are a wee bit rusty, I'll admit, but I can do it all. When you're the owner, it's a HUGE advantage. One old-time florist told me years ago, "you have a big advantage over your father - you can design." This turned out to be so true - when one designer was fired on the spot a year and a half ago, the 2nd designer was out sick with mono, and the 3rd was here, but only starting out. I jumped in the next morning to finish a family funeral (10 pieces), and crank out 15 centerpieces for a wedding. Took me nearly all day 'till 9pm at night(with interruptions) but I did it! I'll never forget that weekend...

Most of my day is being the "owner"...putting out fires, updating IT, web sites, ordering product, putting product into the computer, etc... Currently, the greenhouse is my Dad's domain...

PS - brides drive me crazy....

I can't think of anything in this shop that I don't do... My shop is small and so is the town, so I answer questions and take orders everywhere I go, ie. at the football game or grocery store people order arrangements or give me checks to pay their bills... when I do have help there are some folks who won't talk to anyone else if I am here... anyway, here is a partial list - design, bookkeeping, hr, wreath/garland maker, greens harvester, water inside shop &greenhouse& outside, sweep, clean bathroom, answer phones, IT, feed animals, etc... :beer
