Who is Bain & Company & why are they calling?

Got a call from a rep. of Bain & company, an international research business group. they are willing to give a $50. gift cert. on ebay for completing a survey on independant flower shops. ??? so.... first of all a slap in the face since this is probably ordered by FTD.. remember who is CEO of Ebay and what she tried to do to FTD when she was CEO there??

My guess is that one of the big guys (TFTD) is looking to sell to an international group.. and this international group is looking for info on the real florist wire service scoop and whether they can make money on us..
 
Tell them to call me, I *might* have a word (or two) for them...
 
I spoke at length with a guy from Bain's LA office last fall. Same issue - wire service general info. Bain's corporate motto:

No secret FTD has been for sale. Bain may be hired by a potential buyer, or possibly by Leonard Green & Partners to check out the prospects???

Do you think Meg Whitman would want eBay to own FTD? Doesn't seem like a good fit to me.
 
geez, tell them to call me and I'll read them a copy of my voluntary termination letter to FTD....

I think Meg is smarter than that.

My sarcasm was aimed at Ms Whitman & her handling of FTD when she was at the helm.. Lack of knowledge lack of interest and mostly a firm committment to feather HER OWN BED... remember the Boston FTD headquarters was set up because she lived here and did not like Chicago (well maybe not many people knew about this..it was kept a secret from most florists.. maybe lots of people at hdqtrs but I had to send bunches of stuff there for her regarding technology)
But her bosses must have liked her because she was moved into the Ebay project which won big time... wonder if she had any input or if she just sat back and let others make it happen???
 
Uk connection

We were approached late last year by Bain & Co to provide a full report on the UK market, the role of relay within it and the position of Int and Tel particularly. Basically a complete market report and within 24 hours as the LA office needed it urgently.

As Bain & Co are the most expensive bods in the world and I figured this was for a big league company I said we could do the work but our charge out rate was £1k a day minimum. Haven't heard from them since.
