when you can have front row seats, every morning, to the incredible and free Squirrel de Soleil? ;)

It was another great walk, with death and gravity defying acrobatics, high limb acts, flying without a net... sqirrels circling up trees at high speed until there was nothing but a black licorice line swirling upward. I love early morning.

Enjoy the day.

V, if you keep making these posts, I'm either going to lose sleep or time here on Flower Chat!!

:) Can't help it. Somethings just need to be shared.

Squirrels are nothing, compared to the acrobatics of a group of chipmunks!!
I watched a herd do things that I thought not possible....I actually stopped my work to enjoy this spectacle.

A herd of chipmunks, I can hear their tiny pounding feet as they approach across the prairie land.

:) Thanks for the giggle.

I love chippies, however they don't appear on my morning excursions. Any encounters I've had with them have been of the food kind... you know, where they approach and take food from your hand, your mouth, your plate.

I have a chipmunk here at the shop I think is a little , um, slow in the head. I've never seen a chimpmunk move sooooo s l o w l y across our brick paver driveway - perfect hawk bait. He is really cute, as he climbs up our birdfeeder and stuffs his little face, or stares at us while we stare at him. When I come in early, he is sitting directly in the center of the driveway - we need a chipmunk crossing sign so no one runs over him.

The other day, it was warm but not hot, so I put our African Gray Parrot Willy outside in her cage, to enjoy the day, the birds, the breeze. Well the little chipmunk bugger climbed into her cage to eat her food droppings on the bottom of her cage! Williy is a big fraidy-bird, but she just calmly watched him from her perch. As funny as it was to watch, I took out her tray, and all of her food, for safety issues. I could picture them wrestling in the cage over who got the last peanut, and I think the chipmunk might win.

When I lived at the lake I had a colony of chippies along with other various and sundry "wild" life. I miss it.

This morning's walk brought a different encounter. One where I gave the lovely wee thing a very wide berth. I love black and white, but not so much on little furry animals. ;)

Tracy I love your tale of the Chippie and the Parrot.

Squirels and rabbits and even snakes i can co-exist with, but those GD chipmunks keep burrowing down along the foundation of my house.

V. hope this doesn't offend you but I really enjoyed watching our cat "play" with chipmunks.

Pounce, toss, squish and ________.

I have rescued many from the jaws of death, also known as Elmo. Again, I miss living at the lake... somehow I think Elmo misses it too. ;)

Snakes, oh my... *shiver*. I don't care how many legs a critter has, as long as it has at least one. Mind you, just because I'm afraid of snakes, doesn't mean I want harm to come to them.

We've had several incidents of rabid foxes in our area lately. Not to spoil the spirit of this thread, but a word of caution. (Of course, I know that you are nowhere near this area!)

Connie, when in the wild kingdom's space, we must always exercise caution. We have fox in and around the city as well. As a matter of fact there is a den just over the fence at the off-leash dog park. Carsen could care less about the fox, but the hunting breeds go berserk!

We also have deer in the city, and coyotes have also been spotted.

It's always a goal to live in harmony when possible, however, when rabies becomes an issue then strong measure have to be taken to prevent further disaster.

You're not turning the thread, just reminding me that I do need to be careful. I tend to approach all things as though they are friends... sometimes a stupid thing to do!

Oh yea, this post reminds, I think our cat became an entree by something larger than her. We don't have it anymore.

And where I live we have deer, fox, oppossum, racoons (which loved our cat's cat food), wild turkey, and groundhogs.

North Houston has been plagued with rabid bats...Some of the bats made a home in a school, which they had to close for several days while they removed them.
