I recieved an order today through FASnet, it was kind of a strange situation and then later I recieved a fax asking if I deliver to the address on the order. I thought this was really strange.

I know I have seen references to FAS on the boards but I don't know what it is.

I won't make a comment on them publically. But I will say, I look forward to seeing them go in the direction Teleflora is going. Plus we know faxing orders is a outdated thing.

what is fasnet

Jim,
This is a system like Dove or Wings, RTI, MAS,etc. It is designed thru IFA (Independent Florists Association) some shops have this system to send orders. The reason they probably faxed you is b/c they were not sure if you recvd the order and they were verifying it, b/c you are not a member. Also you may get a fax from them in the future which will be a shop and their CC is on there for you to charge the amount and that is usually a 80/20 split so you will bill them on the CC for 80%, if the CC is not good you can call them and get another one or sometimes it might be a typo error. I hope this cleared this up for you.
Best regards,
Cyndi

IFA and other Florist Direct orders

Just curious, and tho controversial...why would you discount your work? Taking it from a florist who you can easily recoup from by sending them one with a discount is one thing, but if not a member of IFA, how are you ever going to send to one of those florists? Not at all opposed to IFA and their quest, but I am not a member, so.....I will never send thru them. I did fill one for them about a month ago, scratching my head while doing so. If I DO have to send a direct order, and I have, I will not ask for a discount cuz then I am in that place where I need to serve MY customer.

I have been struggling with this one...it seems if a shop chooses to forgoe the expense$ of belonging to a wire service, why should they get a 20% discount? It seems they should be happy with their $ervice fee. And I don't think I should discount my quality work for them any more than I would for one of my customers. You all know how spendy it is to belong wo wire services, and this is what gets us a guaranteed 20% on our sales commissions. Not belonging gets me what it costs me not to belong - nuttin?

Just raising it for discussion. The only times I have said NO DISCOUNT so far is to the wire services - Carik was good at asking for a discount and it was easy to say hell no to them. Tom Meola was easy the chance I got - I just tossed his "Fill this order" fax aside and never even told them I wasn't filling it, then had some fun about a month later when they called to chew me out for not filling and not letting them know...:D :D

So far I haven't said no to any florists, but I am thinking I am going to start. Am I a bad boy? Send me to the 'lectric chair! .

What Carik did wasn't a bad idea, but they never sent the cheque for the amount promised after the discount given etc, if they promised a cheque for 40.25 after the discount, shops would receive a cheque for like 34.00 or less in some cases, plus they had too many rooms full of telemarkters, along with some other stupid things they did that we all know about, and a few I know about from people who worked for them.

Since I was paying top dollar to belong to wire services I had decided to say no to florists when they would call me direct and ask if we would give them the 20% discount.

Then I started seeing posts on these boards about supporting your fellow florist and all that by giving them the 20% discount, but most of those posts were florists who had opted out of the big two.

Still have one of the big two (actually both for another couple months) so think I'll still say no as you're right bloomz, they opted out of paying the big fees so seems that should mean they opted out of the 20% also.

Might think differently if big two free, don't know until I get there.

All I know is that since we quit filling the .coms and started marketing to local customers we have had a noticeable increase in local orders at 100%. Still working on more.

"We've only just begun"!

FAS...Floral Accounting Systems....basically FAS is another software package designed for the floral industry...has little to do with the order itself...

Orders sent, are either IFA, FTD, TF and so on, unless you have FAS and send to a FAS shop, then the orders can (?) be transmitted outside the traditional services....
