oh boy, one of our floral supply drivers had the most depressing incident, after dropping product off at a flower shop, in our area!!
The shop owners, have(had) a little ratty looking dog, looks like a wiener when shaved, and about the same size (really little).
Anyway, this little mutt decided to follow our driver to his diesel delivery truck, and as he was about to pull out, heard this gawd awful howling, and yelping, and then nothing!!
If you "guessed" he ran over the dog, and killed it (today), you'd be right!!
Would you "side" with the driver, or the shop owners??
I "think" it's gonna get....:argue:

Thats just awful for everyone concerned.I know its a complete accident but I think your first concern must be for the owner as they're customers too.Whats the reaction from them like .I think the delivery driver is not going to be effected after a small while and it's you who's going to get the reaction.Sorry to hear about this trouble at such a busy time for you as if you did'nt have enough on your plate.Hope it turns out Ok for you

I would side with the driver (as long as he didn't smash the rodent intentionally), but would feel for the owners. Geez, what a gnarly story, poor dog. :(

I would side with the driver, who I am sure, wasn't even thinking the dog would follow him out. Although I feel horrible for the shop losing their pet like that, it is their responsibility if they are going to have the dog in the store to make sure that it doesn't leave the building in the first place.

No matter how the dog came to get under the wheels the problem as I see it is that the owners are hugely emotionally involved and thats whats going to be the strongest factor for them. The driver will forget it soon enough .What was said at the time ?have you any report of what happened when it was killed ?

Pets, like children, are the responsibility of the owner. The driver would be accountable only if he/she drove over the dog intentionally or recklessly.

No matter how ugly the dog was, someone just lost their beloved pet. That sucks.

that is my reason for posting this.....he will NOT forget, this affected him quite deeply, and he is very, very traumatized, along with the dog's owners.

I did'nt mean any disrespect to your driver with my comment just that I would'nt take sides as such cos it's really bad all round and I'm sure it's a lousy thing to happen .If only you could turn the clock back.I feel for you all -honestly.

Oh... what a Horrible situation.

I realy do feel for both the owners of the dog and the Truck Driver. I am sure he did not do it intentionally and I would assume he his feeling very guilty at the moment. It was an accident and that's that.

The owners do have a responsibilty to know where their pet is at all times, just like a child as Fairfield has said.

It is an emotional time all round but hopefully as time passes all involved will see it as only an accident and unfortunatly things like this happen

I'm sure the owners wouldn't have described their furry family member as "a little ratty looking dog, looks like a wiener when shaved", as if it's looks diminishes the impact of the incident on them or the driver.

I feel for both... it was a horrible thing with emotional consequences to all the victims.

Oscar the fat brown lab comes to work everyday....Ryder comes to visit, a sleek young lab pup, with one of our wholesale trucks 3X week. Oscar and Ryder are best buds....
I own Oscar.......I do not allow him to run out of the shop in any way or fashion. We have gates and doors. An owner is responsible for his pet. Oscar doesn't have "car sense"....he thinks they are great things..he goes for rides in them.
I am responsible. Should anything such as that happen, I would never, ever blame anyone but myself.
The driver has compassion toward animals and will probably not forgive himself but if he'd had previous encounters with the dog following him?????? still and all..........Owners should be responsible for their pets. (mini soapbox)

I applaud your opinion and I agree 100%

Well I understand your poor driver, that would shake the Queen up as well, and the owners as well, it is a trying time for both at hand, I just hope a police report was done, I know shame on me, but the way folks are now days it has to be done, so there is none of this she said stuff, or he said stuff, My thoughts and prayers are with your driver at this time, as well as the owners of there pet..

I guess I don't understand why there is a "side" at all... It was an accident on the part of the driver, and an oversight on the part of the doggie's parents to let him get out. Accidents and oversights happen every day - the driver will have to learn to forgive himself, as will the parents have to forgive themselves.

May the little weiner rest in peace, poor pooch. Losing an animal is hard, any way it happens.

I agree with you, there should be no need to take sides...it was an accident.

That being said, I have taken my yorkie "Boo" to Renee's flowershop many times. With customers coming and going, grangkids chasing Boo and people playing with Boo thru the front glass door, I have learned to keep one eye on what I'm doing and the other on what Boo is doing...I always realize that "Boo" (my youngest child) is my responsibility...that's the bottom line.
