Just curious. I know why heated ones do, but I've been browsing around and have seen some harmless ones closed. Just wondering why.

Some have been closed by the Administration team as you suggest.
Over time, all threads close, when they have reached a maturity date, and there have been no new posts in a specified amount of time. This is done automatically by the system.
