After an extremely warm January into February, an artic front has positioned itself over the Northeast. (thanks fellow Canadians). We've had more cellar flooding in my house which is on a very steep hill this January than in 31 years of living here thanks to many inches of rain. January is for snowmobiling, bringing in the tourists to fill the hotels, restaurants, wives shopping while hubby plays....none of the above has come to pass this year.
So NOW, we have predicted possible blizzard warnings for Sunday into Monday. Makes me remember a few years back where the New England Governors proclaimed the week of Feb 13th......Valentine's Week!!
Ah yes, we were trying to deliver in accumulations of over 18" of snow on the roads and almost a 40" total storm over two days. Although we have been snowless (this is the first year I can remember for a long time where I have NO snow in my backyard this time of year) we are gearing up for those deliveries on Monday and Tuesday. Gotta love Front Wheel Drive or maybe the hubby's truck with the plow? I have way too much invested in fresh cuts to call the whole thing off!! Wishing everyone...sunshine and plowed roads. :boggles:

I drove through winter Armegedon last Saturday. I have front wheel drive, but the tires are frisbee size. I'm grateful for standard transmission... it kept me from being upside down in a field or ditch. I'm glad March is just around the corner.

The roads are plowed, the roses are arriving tomorrow, in between storm warnings. I will enjoy this Valentines Day... no pressure. :)

Have a successful and happy Valentines day folks.

By the way... am I to assume that we own the Artic only when the weather is bad. ;)

Weather Guessers predicting snow flurries in Alabama on Saturday.
The grocers love it, everyone panics with a run on Bread and Milk.
People still remember the flurries that turned into 19" back in '94.
We haven't had an accumulation in several years, but you never know.

Side note: A dear florist friend (who is a ray of sunshine "always") in the next town had her cooler worked on earlier in the week. Called my wife yesterday morning crying, ready to lock the door and go home. All her flowers frozen, including much of her Vday roses.

Want to encourage a fellow florist??????
If you can make time, fire off a short email to Deb, she sure could use some positive comments right now. THANKS

Predictions here are for a high of 52 with some cloudiness. Almost perfect.

(Glenn, I sent your friend an email. What an awful thing to have happen so close to a holiday such as this!)

Done....

Hopefully her insurance will cover the losses, and she will be able to get enough product to cover VD....

Update

Talked to Deb this morning and she is still having problems with the cooler, but the cooler man is expected back out this morning.
She was able to get flowers ordered and hopes to have the cooler thermostat fixed soon. Now she is having to monitor temperature and cut it on and off.

She hadn't checked email (why are some florists like that) in a couple days, but I suggested she do that.

Thanks for taking the time.

Talked to Deb last night. . .

Concerning your response to her Flowers Freezing.
You all are a blessing. (should have said, Y'all are a blessing)
With tears in her eyes she shared with our Local Association, the concern, kindness, encouragement and love you shared with her through your emails.
She intended to bring the STACK of emails from Canada, Michigan, Florida, all over the country. She had printed them out to share with us but left them at the shop.

Unfortunately, she is one of the florists (I found out last night) that doesn't know how to use email very well. She wanted to thank all of you, "as soon as Glenn shows me how to do it". . . . . .

I am going to have to do some training.

Anyway, she wanted me to let you know that out pouring was a tremendous blessing and will reply as soon as she figures it out.

Thanks from me.
