yesterday (Sunday) on our way home from delivering to the race track, we passes by an open house sign, for one of the oldest homes in Dundas, and have always been curious about it, it's history, and what it looked like so,
We went back during the open house, and hundreds of other people obviously shared our curiosity!!
The house has truly stood, practically unchanged, for 200 years, small minor updates to make the home "legal",but, literally FILLED with things collected over many generations of inhabitants, and the grounds were in complete dis-array, since the last remaining descendants were obviously too old to properly maintain the place, but, there was a "semblance" of order within the house, besides the fact that they were ALL packrats!!
There is museum quality "everything" in this house, and stuff that I've NEVER seen before, and though well used, NOT AT ALL rusty, broken, spoiled, or otherwise "infectious", and we came across an old ad, from June 1930, that indicated that ED SMITH (a well known fruit/jam processor) in Stoney Creek, started out as a flower business, and had an old location at 213 Bloor Street East, in Toronto, and that EVERYTHING had to "ship" through our Town of Dundas.
I thought you guys & gals may have some interest.......

Mikey, wow that is something else. I signed up so I could see all of the inside photos too, this stuff fascinates me. I found it odd that most of it looks as if you were walking through a replica. All of the things you can see are old old old, and then all of the sudden there is a flat screen TV. Seems somehow out of place.

I wonder if the 3/4 million includes all of the furnishings? If it does I'd snap it up so fast you wouldn't see me coming!

don't let the pictures fool you, those pics are at least 15 years old, if not more...I worked in this house over 30 years ago, and the pics that are listed on the site are accurate from 30 years to 15 years ago, and this house is in dis-array, and largely inhabitable as it stands at this moment!! From what I saw, it almost looked like someone had bought it, and "thought" they could restore it, BUT, were in way,way over their heads, and abandoned the attempt!!
Wallpaper was hanging down, cobwebs everywhere, some plaster was attempted repairwork, and the front outdoor elevated entry stairway was badly broken and close to condemned, yet, the house is solid, the floors are ALL 2 inch hemlock, there is a dividing wall in the "great room" was that was constructed probably in the 20's or 30's that rendered an outside window without view, and the black walnut grand staircase was starting to lean a little, but, STILL, hundreds of people were wandering around, and the house DID NOT CREAK, even once....quite amazing.
I would buy this house, if I were 15 years younger, as once begun, the restoration would be 10 years minimum!!

I could see falling paper and bad plaster work but what is the ladder in the kitchen for?????
I am sure the house needs a full wiring job too and I bet a roof??

I have no recollection of whether I overheard ANYONE confirming one way, or the other the whether the furnishings were "included" BUT, the listing CLEARLY STATES, "as is"......so, I MUST ask......

The roof is new, however, the ladder, which is original, is for access to the upper attic space, which is located ABOVE that narrow little 2nd floor kitchen that you see, and some "so called" rewiring has been done, BUT, I, for one, would NOT accept it in it's present form.
Oddly, it "seems" that the old heating system was a "high pressure" rad system, that one of the past owners/inhabitants "tapped" to drive a wheel pulley and shaft system in the basement, that in turn ran an old lathe, bandsaw, table saw, and drill press, with long belts, made of leather!!

as does not normally include the furnishings. the as is will cover the building only... my sister is a realtor she reminds people if you turned the house upside down and it fell off the wall or the floor its not included unless listed. so pictures mirrors furniture and area rugs are not included.
