I always made it a point to complete the WS and SAF post-holiday surveys. A long time ago I learned that researching the necessary information forced me to look at things that I might not have looked at. I usually stumbled onto something about my own business that I could have missed. At the very least, something in my research always made me say, "Hmmm..." I still complete the SAF surveys, and look forward to seeing how my results compared to others. Several years ago, however, I caught myself as I started to fill out an FTD survey. As I looked at the questions being asked, I realized that my competition was asking me about where my orders came from, whether my internet business had increased, what my average sale was, and so forth. Since then, I've filled out no more surveys for FTD. Today's email brought the results of the FTD Mother's Day survey, which says that 13% of the members polled responded. What are these people thinking? I continue to respond to SAF's surveys, and, for whatever it's worth, I continue to be interested in how my business compares to the combined results of others. For those who still respond to WS surveys, I'd like to know what your rationale is. Do you really think the wire services are not using your data to adjust their business model and marketing? (I don't know if Teleflora or Bloomnet conduct similar surveys, but would be surprised if they didn't).

I do not recall ever receiving a TF survey addressing holiday business. When I was with FTD I did receive their surveys and, like you, I initially completed them until the proverbial lightbulb went on and I stopped giving them my info.

I do receive the TF product surveys/questions as to whether I like this container or that arrangement. These I complete, even though I stopped buying these rip-offs at the end of 2007, except for the Kinkade which stopped with Christmas 2009. I actually like to see what they are considering and then, as it gives me great enjoyment, playing with their mind.

Too funny...I too like to play with their surveys....makes us kind of evil doesn't it? Hummmm....maybe this is why they have such aweful containers....it must be our fault!

I confess I do it too. At the end I always say something like.. "by the way, I'm no longer a member so you may want to stop sending me these." I know they never read them some marketing team just looks at the 1 - 5's and that is it. Some of them are always good for a laugh :)

I see I'm in wonderful company. There was what I thought a bizarre multi-colored, glass (?), vase in a survery only earlier this week for Easter 2012. I informed the survey that I wouldn't purchase any of the arrangements in the vase and was then asked why. I informed the survey that all options were utterly hideous.

What I do find out about the container surveys from TF is that you never seem to see actual production remotely like the survey version, if I recall correctly (IIRC).

Confession also, have a few times, but when that question last time came up about "how did the majority of your customers find you?"........that made me think, usually I talk first then think.
