Agreed...

this 2004 will prove to be the ZANEY year of flower retail, and mark my words....the consumer WILL RULE, and THE CONSUMER already KNOWS where to get the best bang for the buck...and that's in INDEPENDENT FLORIST SHOPS, and on THEIR websites!
We have much work to do on the younger generation...they think all things "keyboard" is the best way to go, and if THAT'S what they want, we TOO can "rob" them of as many dollars as the average OG...BUT, we won't, because we STILL CARE (have no idea why)

Times call for drastic measures, and not only on the web, but in our stores as well. Time has come for a concerted effort by REALflorists to take back that which WAS ours.

Is there room for a WS in OUR mix? yes I think there is, but that said, it will have to be one that has OUR best interests at heart, thus growing itself WITH US, by providing what we need, and at a price point where we can BOTH PROFIT.

Personally, I'm making some major changes to the way I do business... will post the first step, sometime today....

Hey Boss, Here is one we tested last Mother's Day.

We thought since everyone turn off the merc/dove and took the phone's off the hook ( We aren't sure if it was everyone )

Had one of the phone sale person only take orders with credit card for same day delivery. Didn't care if it was another florist, flws, ftd whatever. We didn't offer any discounts at all.

I figure by the day of the holiday I am on OT so might as well get paid. But once again I wonder if we confuse they fact that we are a retail biz with the worries of the customer might not send flowers.

I wonder if thinking like that puts all the cards in the big boys hands
