800flowers and their "new" pricing system

Finalized a deal with one today that was in our best interest.
Two other WS seem unwilling or hesitant to honor past agreements.
One of the two got thrown out of the shop today !
Funny thing though, it wasn't the one that is on audio/video for 47.3 minutes making promises and commitments that they never intended to honor a few years back.

Man would I love the opportunity to stick that video up on the web.

The main topic has been " why don't you wait until after the holidays " ?

Well sure, I could do that, and allow them to dump every discounted order my way whilst they suck up to the new kids on the block promising green pastures ahead. I don't think so.

Said a while back I was gearing up for some pretty intense battles. Looks as if it will be pre holidays.
Advantage : No percentages, reduced rental vehicles, reduced fuel costs, reduced people power, reduced hard goods cost, reduced flower cost, reduced utility bills, reduce waste and misc...., & reduced stress and BS.

Starting to sound really good to me, but the beauty is that once the handcuffs are off THE TRUTH WILL BE TOLD one way or another !

.............and by the way decons/bug spray are vital for us all !!!!!!!!

I find it a funny PHENOMIMUM that, so many folks line up at their door as ENABLERS, and despite the fact that, even though they know they're probably gonna get SHAFTED along the way, they DOO IT ANYWAY!

Why would any REAL FLORIST agree to pay increased incoming order redistribution broker fees at variable priced tier levels, to obtain smaller pieces of the pie, when the pie itself, has gotten smaller?

lol

I agree with everything you say Toto, but...consider this

They (800TFTD) are getting more and more and more of the orders every freaking day, as we get less.

They're not growing the pie, just taking what used to be our slices.

I fear time may come when they have them all, and this is the way flowers will be bought.

A bit extreme perhaps, but it could happen and we'll all be working out of warehouses without retail fronts.

So at that point - I guess lining up for the orders begins to make sense.

Given this Bush economy situation - I've noticed recently both outgoing and incoming, a real willingless to do more. In other words, I actually welcome incoming orders now (as long as they're not skimmed) and I see other florists even more so. Those that were somewhat willing before are more willing now. You can tell by the tone of their decon messages.

So - our long time philosophy of not enabling them hasn't worked, except in our own little worlds, so where do you go from here???

I hope it doesn't come to that, but it could happen.....

It takes more than TALKING THE TALK JB!

Too many REAL FLORISTS pretend to TALK THE TALK while failing to WALK THE WALK!

Lots of reasons for that to include FEAR, IGNORANCE, and STUCK ON STUPID!

I remember one florist's defense of hanging onto his WS.

" YES, I know we're loosing money by filling all of their DOT.CON ORDERS, but we've always done it that way, and I don't have any plans to change! "

Be assured that, the WS's pie is SHRINKING as well, and so, the fact that hard working florists are PAYING MORE while GETTING LESS, makes absolutely NO ECONOMIC SENSE WHAT SO EVER!

Even some of the order fulfillment centers have CLOSED or are CLOSING, despite their lower overheads and lower costs of labor, as compared to the traditional BRICK and MORTAR FLORAL SHOPS.

The best strategy any REAL FLORIST can invoke during these very difficult economic times, is to reduce their shop's overhead and operating costs, wherever possible.

If the EXPENSE of any particular shop's cost, either FIXED, or VARIABLE, can be reduced or eliminated, that's got to be their goal.

And the qualifier is simple! Is this expense neccessary to the day to day operation of our business, and if so, does this expense give us a return on our investment?

In other words, does that investment PRODUCE A PROFIT?

If the answer is NO, than IT'S GOTTA GO!

TURNING and CHURNING without gleaning a PROFIT is a LUXORY no REAL FLORIST CAN AFFORD in these TOUGH TIMES! Buy LESS, spend LESS, drive LESS, employ LESS, and work harder, but only work for the folks who pay you 100% of your product and $ervice sales.

For ALL OTHERS: BE GONE! YOU HAVE NO POWER HERE!

Like when I was a kid, and we turned our binoculars around, and looked through the BIG side to see the world in a much SMALLER perspective.

That's like looking to the WS's along with their OGs, as a road to BIGGER profitabilty, even though you can see their SMALLER pies, from which, they're trying to sell you EVEN LESS, but more EXPENSIVE SMALLER PIECES!
