Now that I've stopped laughing, and believe me, I DID laugh when I saw it, I just have to share this. We just received a Mercury order from a well-known OG (and real florist!) in Commerce Township, MI. The product description: "Coral roses, seeded eucalyptus and Italian ruscus bundled in a brown satin ribbon. This is a boutonniere." It's for delivery tomorrow, not in our city, but in one of our "Also served bys" 12 miles/25 minutes away. The TOTAL price we would receive, including delivery? $7.95. Yup. Seven dollars and 95 cents. Now, you might wonder what our delivery charge is. (Apparently the sending OG didn't). $9.95. I wonder how much the OG charged for delivery, and what they did with it.... Rather than reject it, I forwarded it so someone else could have a good laugh today, too.

I'm starting to think they just send these orders to annoy florists. Glad I am not in that game anymore, although they do occassionally try to call me their stupid orders.

That's so wierd, who even orders a bout online?

Ummm...

Well...

Actually, quite a few for proms. We have our website set up so that the ONLY "delivery" option for bouts and corsages is PICKUP. We probably do a dozen or more online orders each spring.

All the best,

Bill

This is automation at its best....some person saw this online and ordered it, shop gets it on thier machine or in email and just sends it onto the florists, doesn't look it up, doesn't look at the price just sends it out...

Last week I had a regular customer call and order a handtied wrapped bouquet from my website, I called to ask her if she intended on ordering an arrangement without a vase, she didn't even notice it had no vase...glad I caught that one..but in reality the people that are sending the orders out probably wouldn't know the difference..

Same as Bill here... we sell many corsages and bout's online for prom/homecoming and a few for Mothers Week... but they are all local customers... NO OG's like Weasley Berry....

Tom, when I read your post it sat me back in my chair with a big guffaw, then, like Boss, I had to shake my head.

The confused consumer behind that order is left wondering why the HE!! it's so difficult for a florist to fill that order. We as florists come off looking like complete idiots with these types of orders. From a consumer's POV, they saw what they wanted, ordered it, and have every expectation of having it fulfilled. More than likely that order got bounced around before getting canceled. Just as likely, the dog who originated that order lied to the consumer about the florist not having the flowers or something just as deceitful.

Another shake of the head.....

IF it was Wesley Berry as your post and other comments suggest it might be, checking their website shows an item, "My First Bout." fitting the description (and using a TF code of T193-3A but seemingly sent to you by FTD - something else the wire rules are supposed to prohibit).

Wesley Berry selling on-line for US$32.99 + tax. But after a promo coupon of $20.00, consumer cost is $13.77. TF, incidentally, recommend selling the item @ $7.95+$7.00 delivery.

So, consumer, through Wesley Berry, IF they ever got the piece, bought at a saving versus TF, assuming no promo coupon from TF. But then again, if they never got it, hardly a saving!

The one possibly bright aspect of all this: the consumer, if they never got through on-line, called a florist and found a real, fair, price for the boutonniere and, if it was to be delivered, got to know the delivery charge and, as a result found out what a con Wesley Berry, TF and other OGs are.

Lori: You forgot that the referenced florist you found charges $8.00 ON TOP and then sales tax! Oh, an the recipe calls for spray rose to be used. This is daylight robbery.

First of all, you all know how I feel about the ws AND dOG's of this industry. However, in reality, how many of us would accept an order......even a F2F order that obviously would fall below our posted minimum order dollar amount. Clearly, this boutonierre is overpriced at 40+ dollars........however, if your posted minimum is 35.00, would you accept a 12 or 15 dollar order value? I can understand in that light, the reason for the absurd price.

Which leads me to post a provactive question....for which there is no right or wrong answer except what is best for your business. ARE WE PRICING OURSELVES TOO HIGH TOO ALLOW OTHER FELLOW FLORISTS TO USE US FOR THEIR ORDERS?

The WS habit of sending a member orders that are below that member's minimums is not only annoying but lazy programming on their part and a complete waste of time.

I would like to think that a fellow florist would pick up the phone for some due diligence before sending an order like this over the wire.

This happened to me a few years ago. I was with a WS website and on MD started getting orders in for cheap bouts and corsages. They update the portal so often and all your data would be "over-ridden" or something like that. I had to go in a re-do all of the work and save it again. Price I paid for not being in control.........
