I'm going to join FTD

Aldi Stores now selling FTD Floral Arrangements with huge discounts.
Who's going to fill the orders?

I plan on joining FTD. It seems FTD is a company that every florist should be associated with. How else am I going to build my brand except by giving it away. And I don't want to feel left out because if I don't fill the low price orders some other florist will. Now I understand why those florists who belong to FTD, do so. It must be to get as many orders as possible.

FTD used to be THE wire service to belong to. Unfortunately, since they went public, their business seems to be in a downward spiral. the "F" in FTD used to represent the local florist. It also seems that since they changed officers, they are targeting grocery stores and discount stores.

I think that each florist needs to have a business plan. Once that has been established, review each wire service and see if what they are doing, is in the same direction you would like for your business to go. If not, then it might be time to pull the plug.

Aldi and FTD

We just got an FTD order in at 10 minutes to twelve coming from Aldi Inc in Batavia, Il. Under special instructions it says deliver between noon and 1p.m. if possible. Yea. I thought it looked suspicious so I tried doing a florist search. Couldn't find it on Mercury, so I tried a yahoo search for Aldi Inc in Batavia. I was very surprised to say the least to see their web-site and partnering with FTD. Needless to say, the order got forwarded. Very Disappointing! Oh, the order was for the Basket of Cheer delivered for $24.99 and again, they wanted delivered within the hour.

Used to be the same in Germany

In the UK Aldi is the lowest of the low ... how does it rate over there.

C

...just picked up this thread...interesting....as I have been living in the UK for the past 10 years, I have also noticed that ALDI in UK is "NOT THE PLACE YOU GO TO SHOP!"
Indeed, it was exactly the same in Germany when ALDI started out. But by offering very good quality to a very reasonable price they have "moved up" and since then you can see nothing but Mercedes and BMWs parked in their parking lots...even Mr. Dr.Dr. ...is buying champagne and caviar for New Years Eve at Aldi's etc - and doe not keep it secret either!...and the status of ALDI has become an accepted one by everybody.
People in Germany generally love their products.

In the US there are about 850 Aldi Stores ( quite a few) and worldwide about 5000......

Yes, I would be interested as well to hear what consumer-recognition- status ALDI has in the US.

ALDI - who

I've never heard of ALDI - is this a version of walmart?

of course, we in New Orleans are very resisant to change.

midwest transplant from the netherlands? Generally a no frills, low price grocery. You will find the basics usually on skids or still in the boxes. Bag your own groceries and bring your own bags.

I would think low price point arrangements would be a TM with Aldi. They don't attract the hi end consumer.

In my area Aldi is discount grocery store. A good place to shop for staples, and not much more. Everything is store or generic brand, and in Pa no alcohol is sold in stores. No meat counter or fresh produce beyond the basics. The one here is near the super walmart, and I think most people run in to avoid the crowds.

Same here

We too are seeing a drop in perceived quality with Interflora and I have many young florists (and not so young) that won't touch it with a barge pole. Trouble is we don't have the same alternatives. Teleflorist do want to focus on the florist but have very low performance levels and Flowers Direct/Flowergram seem to have cheesed off a lot of florists as well over here. While all relays will scoop up people (I guess for both coverage and fees given their numbers are dropping like they are over there) there has to be a limit on how many they can take in one area (I think!) and so florists are stuck. They need the service but .....

forwarded this interests me!!!!!

. Needless to say, the order got forwarded. Very Disappointing! Oh, the order was for the Basket of Cheer delivered for $24.99 and again, they wanted delivered within the hour.
As i've said before what you guys get, we usually get shafted with later...so to shift on these unwanted orders interests me,whats forwarding ?, its not a facility i've come across on our relay system...Do you forward to a near member; for them to deal with, and how ??

Carrington, Aldi ain't much to look at down under either. I noticed them in the New Mexico when I was there and now it took them about 5 years to come down this way. People do shop there....but I have never touched foot in it and never will. If they have FTD in the states probably take a few more years to put it down here....but I guess we will see.

Forwarding an order is sending the order to another FTD florist so they can fill it, which can be done on the Mercury. That relieves us of any obligation with the order.

Being out of the shop for a while now and being away from the day to day......Have the FTD.com/800-Send-FTD orders now allowed forwarding of orders?

Used to have an instruction on each order....."Do not forward this order, If unable to fill, please reject."

We aren't allowed to reject

Forwarding an order is sending the order to another FTD florist so they can fill it, which can be done on the Mercury. That relieves us of any obligation with the order.

As I understand it, in the UK florists are not allowed to reject any order and in the case of Interflora/FTD are fined. They are also not allowed to switch off terminals without permission - even if sick/short of staff etc and can be fined for that as well. OAF you know more than me about the system - could you clarify for our American cousins and me.

Overall it does seem to me that the Stateside system is fairer ... obviously one doesn't want to let the customer down but from what I've read here some services will try and send a low priced order but if the florist rejects/refuses will often come back with more money. I also understand that the exectuiting commissions are higher in the US than UK.

Have I understood that right or am I totally off beam.

Aleways willing to learn and if necessary be shot down!

Carrington
