As I understand it, in the UK florists are not allowed to reject any order and in the case of Interflora/FTD are fined. They are also not allowed to switch off terminals without permission
Now thats funny!!!
:rofl::rofl::rofl:

We have 4-5 Aldis locally. I go there for fresh fruit for baskets, but will not go there after dark.

AS IT STANDS UK SIDE RELAY ,ONCE YOU GET AN ORDER YOUR STUCK WITH IT FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE,TWO YEARS + AGO YOU COULD REJECT/RETURN/CANCEL ANY ORDER YOU CHOSE TO,BUT APPARENTLY SOME MEMBERS "CHERRY PICKED"(not guilty),SO A NAMELESS BOD DECIDED THERE WAS A LIST OF VALIED REASONS TO REJECT(very small list) WITH NO CHARGE,AND A LIST OF REASONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE NEED TO REJECT(long list)WITH A FINE/CHARGE..YOU MAY REJECT WITHOUT ANY CHARGE 4 ORDERS IN ANY CALENDAR MONTH, AFTER THAT YOUR ON THE FINE /CHARGE SCALE ABOVE...ALSO YOU CANNOT TURN YOUR TERMINAL OFF FOR ANY REASON WITHOUT AUTHORISATION,AND IF YOU NEED A HOLIDAY A MINIMUM OF TWO CALENDAR MONTHS NOTICE MUST BE GIVEN.ONE COMPANY"FTD"TWO VERY DIFFERENT SETS OF RULES...

it wouldn't surprise me if FTD doesn't start implementing this restriction the "this side of the pond" soon...in fact, to me, it seems like a pretty fair thing to do.

in our short, misguided stint as a WS lackey, almost all of our orders were REJs from other established shops who simply passed on crap orders to newbies like us who didn't know better...

reason #14 why my hatred for the WSs runs so deep.

Can see why you would think it fair and in many ways agree that people shouldn't cherry pick orders - indeed have said that in open editorial and as such suppport the principle of monitoring/watching the rejects.

However from the UK perspective the problem comes when the order generator is pushing a low value/high volume product which in a price drive market is what is happening over here. Given Interflora members only get 67% of the order value it can cost them dearly at times.

Remember we have no dual membership over here so the pressure is far greater ... it's a take it or leave it scenario which isn't particularly healthy in my humble opinion.

How does it work with Teleflora and Bloomnet. Personally I think there has to be a half way house which takes into account both sides needs but maybe that's just seeking utopia.

yes well as you can see living in a monopolistic bubble as you seem to be in over there is a terrible situation to be in. with no choices in service provides you guys will *always* be left with the short end. in fact, your views will hardly be considered in the corporate boardrooms of Interflora, because their status as "take it or leave it" gives them no incentive to work with the florists.

expect things to get worse, and never better unless competition arises.

Aldi's ad

Aldi's in Ohio carries generic groceries, and a few name brands stacked on pallets, but with no amenities...ie: you have to bag your own groceries, and you have to rent a cart, by placing a quarter in the locked chain device that keeps the carts together.

This was in Aldi's ad yesterday, 11-25-07

6.5 in poinsettea plants $3.49

FTD Christmas centerpiece $42.92, (3 cranberry colored glass candleholders, with 6 red roses, mini red carnations, holly, hypericum and red bows).

FTD Christmas Cheer Bouquet $26.06

These images are on their website at:

Did you also notice poinsettias at $3.49 in store and if you want it FTD its $34.00 plus delivery and service charges. I doubt this partnership will last.
I wonder how much lower FTD can go. Perhaps gas stations next, Dollar stores?

you know i was doing some shopping for t-day goodies, and i thought of something as i was buying my stuffing mix. i noticed that for ALOT of everyday items, our Publix has its own "brand", always cheaper, of product.

so it dawned on me...groceries have been undercutting there retail partners for years now. stove-top stuffing mix has to deal with the fact that although Publix stocks its product, right next to stove-top is Publix stuffing mix for 15% cheaper.

if grocers and there retail partners understand that this is the way of things, who are we to worry about it? grocers will always be putting downward pressure on pricing for all industries.

just thinking...

VERRY DISAPPOINTED WITH FTD. Yes, I saw the Aldi's colors ad insert in Sundays paper. The C-1 and C-2 at a 20% discount of what we will have to sell it for. The ad says: Through our partnership with FTD, we're offering fresh flowers in all the colors of the season...from stunning red roses to dazzling white orchids. Each bouquet features FTD's signature high- quality flowers-and our signature low prices. I really feel betrayed by our so called "Partner", NOT!!! Along with the 3 new monthly fee increases, we are just about to slam the door on FTD, and I think we are some of the most loyal members you'll find. FTD, always finding new ways to tick off their members.

I know our general manager called and placed a complaint with FTD over this today. She called at 10 am and our rep. said that she had already gotten 2 other phone calls/complaints concerning this before our call this morning.

Good. ;-)

Tell your GM not to bother wasting the time to contact FTD regarding Aldis...

It will not make any difference. I know, I ragged about the local Krogers when FTD added the 2800+ Krogers stores a couple years ago, as I have one directly across the street from me. One thing it did though, was motivate me to remove every FTD sticker from my vans and building, and stationary and even the selection guide cover.(not that we use it much anyway)

The thing about the likes of Krogers and Aldi and any other high number outfit, is that FTD does not care how many orders each location gathers, because they look at the total number from all Krogers stores as one lump sum, and they also get the membership dollars from each location, even though they are discounted memberships.

You have to remember FTD/800/TF do NOT care what you or I think, not one bit!

total agreement.

A very succinct statement that is right on the money.
