Dear [you],

This is an important message for all FlowerChat Community members, from your Administrative Team.

It has come to our attention that Phillip Murphy has been surreptitiously contacting FlowerChat members for the purpose of soliciting business for his company. We wish to make it clear that such behaviour is completely in violation of FlowerChat's policy for vendors and service providers. It was for this reason, amongst others, that Mr Murphy was banned from FlowerChat a few years ago. Since then, he has made repeated attempts to gain access to the board using false information. At this time we are pursuing legal means to ensure Mr Murphy is faced with extensive consequences for his actions.

In the meantime, the Administrative Team would like to state that we in no way endorse or support Mr Murphy's actions, conduct or services. While each member is free to conduct business with whomever you chose we caution you - as we would with any purchase or service agreement - to consider the character, track record and reputation of the company in question.

We want to assure you that we are taking every step possible to protect the FlowerChat Community from vendors who try to spam our membership, and we are very proud of our track record in this regard. If you are contacted outside of FlowerChat by Mr Murphy, please contact us at: [email protected].

I got a phone call awhile back from him and I know he is near my town or possibly in it, he has several odd websites.. but I don't get what he is selling. I have very little patience for anyone soliciting by phone and tend to get rid of them ASAP. I'm such a hardened business woman now!!!
 
I feel like such a fool!!!! I got a call from him last week (yes, Mother's Day week) asking some goofy questions about sending a casket spray to a home?!?!?! I must have asked too many questions, because he was going to have his customer call me directly. Before I hung up the phone, he started asking me about my website and my ecommerce marketing plans, he emailed me a link to his websites which I haven't had time (and now won't) to look at. He sounded like a sterotypical used car salesman. I thought it was wierd that he had grieving clients in front of him (or so I thought) and then he switched into a sales pitch!!!!!!

If he calls back, I'll give him an earful! Thanks for the heads up!!!!!

...this phillip dude has been around a long time. I am sure the 'personalized' response by Ryan to us all is to give us the heads-up needed before anyone signs any business dealings w/ phillip. I am not privy to his shady business dealings except that others have talked and warned him, and us about him, many times. He has repeatedly been banned from several florist chat sites.

Just be careful who you deal with when deciding what is best for your florist.

We're not saying he has all your info - he has been known to use other tools like a "whois" lookup to see who owns a domain. This is a common technique used by spammers, and the reason registrars allow private domain registration.

Still investigating this.

Anyone getting an email from Mr Murphy, if you don't mind sending the email address to me in a PM, I'd appreciate it.
 
Yup that's phlop - I occasionally get email from him still...I expressed sincere condolences when he lost his Mother recently and he has my email address.

Anybody who falls for it - gets what they get I guess.

He's really quite a decent, make that accomplished webmaster - just misguided IMO.
 
I found his websites to be messy with missing/broken links. they show up great on SEO but I think they are scattered. When he called here, he asked for the "guy that owned the place". Right, ok, whatever!

You know what I just remembered ... back in '04 we billed FlowerChat as a "Phil-Free Zone." That tag line was our most successful promotion to date :)

Thanks for the info. As I'm sure everyone here does, we get phone calls daily for all sorts of business opportunities. Occasionally, one comes along that is actually worth pursuing.
