Tell the truth now, the poll is anonymous - did you put those posters up in your store?

I got to spend an hour or so talking to a guy who works now for ftd.con just came from TF.con about that program. He told me he set up the websites for it, and gathering emails was his forte.

I told him they had to have been slapping their legs laughing at this one, and he was like, huh?

I bought the vases which came with "free" ads, but have since resigned (which takes a couple of months) TF, so we're not putting up the posters. Well, we did cut up the banner so that we have two large posters of the arrangement.

Haven't put up anything yet, because it's just to early to be advertising Mother's Day. I will frame one poster though so customers can see the vase arrangement that we are stocking. I will wear the apron cause it's cute! Sending the envelope stuffers out with bills and putting them in shopping bags.

As far as our customers nominating their Mom's I don't think it will happen. We didn't have anyone who bought the Diamond & Roses so that they could enter the contest. They bought it cause they liked the look.

Have not stocked up the vase In canada. My would be SRP for this vase with shipping does not warrent the size of the vase.
Anyway I was told by my canadian rep, the contest is not supported in canada. Meaning people in Canada won't be able to win.
THe only one I bought was the tea cup and saucer and tea pot because I have people who collects them in my other store and will be offfering them as loose items.
However regarding the posters I will have them up for customers who wants to order them out of town.
Now we should be looking at the receipe of these items. When Icalculated them at my price for the product listed I come Higher then what they are suppose to be sold at.

Any orders coming in will hav eto match my price to have it delivered. I am also sending it out at my SRP.

Didn't but the coded product for Mothers's Day for the first time ever. So we are not advertising for america's favorite mom. I have asked four separate times for the banner to be removed from my TF website, but it's still there. I have actually been one of those that advertised in the co-op ads before(the first step to overcoming addiction is addmitting you have a problem!), and have never had a Mother's day that we weren't coded for something. The sales pressure has been huge, several calls even yesterday. I am nervous about it, but I am showing a decline in incoming overall, so I decided to skip the coded product and take my chances.

I actually love the message. . .

The idea of the message is GREAT.
And the traction for Teleflora will be good.

Now. . . .TELEFLORA . . .HELLOOOOOOOO. . . .
IF YOU'RE LISTENING. . . . . .

Use this marketing to your advantage and help the little guys benefit from it.
Remember us(?), we're the ones actually doing the work.

I am promoting it, but not spending any money to do it. You do not need to sell the vase for the contest. You just need to push the nominations. Mama could use a nice new shiney van with a wrap....

I think it is worth a try to see how it goes. I have my doubts, how well it will help us though...I know I am stupid but I like to try new things and see how they go...

america's favorite mom

i'm supporting this.. it's a good idea and who knows... i tried taking one of the tear sheets to my local staples to get some printed to put in my statements... they wouldn't do it because of the copyright on them... so... now i'm confused... they say take them to a local printer to have more made.. but the local printers won't print them. so... i'll use what i have and then just verbally tell people..

I like the concept. Sure, I'm a little leary about the emails, but I believe them when they say they won't steal them.

I doubt if we will sell that many, but the idea of real advertising that drives customer into retail shops is right on.

One of the webmasters just contacted me about my request to remove the banner, and was very nice on the phone. They wanted to know why I wanted it removed and I explained that I did not want them to market to my customers. He assured me that will not be doing that and that my customers info will be stored and available to only me through myteleflora, like the rest of my web info. He also explained that those who go to teleflora.com will of course be marketed to, but they are not my customers, per se. I will leave it up for now, and think on it some more.

Just a note to those that are going to recreate a statement stuffer or verbally promote the contest to increase your chances for the van, make sure you print/say www.americasfavoritemom.com/florist .....if your customer goes to the national marketed website minus the "/florist", then the drop down screen does not come up for them check off your store as a referring florist. Anyway, FYI.

Not participating.

Thanks Ivygreen, for the reminder about removing the banner. On it! And this will be the second M-day with no coded containers - customers don't seem to miss them, as long as we have something besides the everyday vases & baskets we use.

Now a new poll - did anyone "mominate" themselves :tongue

No need to spell anything out.....We all know that some of you think we are stupid for doing this...Some of us just need to learn on our own what works and what doesn't.....

I did not code for this (or anything else) for Mother's Day. I'm trying to get my head around the logistics of running our own "Favorite Mom" contest, piggybacking off of some of the awareness that TF is creating.

I didn't code due to a few simple reasons: they're crazy priced ,the recipes always seem skimpy, we only really sell the codified container pieces for wire-ins (walk ins buy our own designs) and I hate the skimpy size of the containers (if I can't be proud of it, I don't want to sell it). I've coded for TF containers many times in the past but it just doesn't work for me right now.

I have my own website and will not have the banner on it. We won't be displaying TF signage in the shop, we're having our own printed to match our flyers and postcards and featuring our designs.

Regardless, I think all of the attention that should come from this campaign will be good for all florists.

Frankly, I don't make business decisions based on the consensus on flower chat. The anti-wire service crowd is extremely vocal so the shops that use and make money from them tend to be quiet.

This advertising effort is the first one in a while out of TFTD that could help the industry, overall flower usage and retail florists. Obviously, it will also help Teleflora or they wouldn't do it.

I'm supporting it and I'm glad to see it.

Neither do I....I have found that in the past 2 years I have been making decisions based on my last job and just now have realized that the clientele is vastly different and things that I could not sell where I was I can now sell. I can only base my decisions on things I try in my current location and with my clientele...

Will do

Okay for those of you that are putting up those posters - I got this great bridge for sale, only used on Sundays.

And - I got a better idea - something you can put in your pocket - get your customers to sign up on my email list instead and I'll pay you oh say $2 per signup - contact me for the linking instructions.

I also notice that all the tf sites have the banner on them - and - if you can find the "findaflorist" link and go to a site thru there on the top there's a link back to find a florist, so if your customers seek you out thru that link and want to wire flowers to Aunt Mary out of town - they won't have to "bother" you with the order as they can just click the link and tf will handle it for them.

nice

Sheesh - I can't believe the number of people that fell for this, especially on this board.

Was that too cryptic?

I can do it again with big text if someone still doesn't get it.

Geez it sure got quiet in here - was it my haircut?

Hmmm... I haven't looked at this thread since this morning, but wondered about it.

I went in to view the source of our home page and saw this where the America's Fav mom banner is:

function redirect(){
var strurl;
strurl = "http://www.americasfavoritemom.com/mothers-day-2008/home/show"
if (s_account == "flowerclubcom") {
strurl=strurl+"?fId="+vidjs;
}
else if (s_account.length > 21) {
if (s_account.substr(0,11)=="efloristcom") {
strurl=strurl+"?fId="+s_account.substr(14,8)+"&srccode=AFM_florist";
}
}
window.open(strurl,"afm");

I'm sure most people's eyes are spinning as much as mine, since it's pretty cryptic. I am just wondering about that "if/else" statement in the redirect. What's that s_account="flowerclubcom" vs "efloristcom"? Am I being paranoid or does that mean something... and if so, what?:dunce

Maybe it's all fine and innocent. Anyone know?
