Mike: If you don't update by 15-Dec-05, your account will be charged $15.00.
That is what FTD tech support told me yesterday.

Hmmm another thought popped into the matter between my ears....and I'm not saying this is the deal but....we have seen it before...

They send the CD durring Thanksgiving Week when florists are busy busy, then give you 20 days to install it or you will be charged $15.00...

Knowing that many do not even read their statements I wonder how many will let this disk hang around for reading/installing after the Christmas season once things slow down...easy money grab, although not that much money...why didn't they send this package out in August, they already knew they had problems and were going to do it...

Forced use of software....who's PC is it anyway??

Give that man a prize! Well done.

I'm surprised no one has made a big issue of the fact that FTD is forcing you to install software that communicates info on the status of your PC to HQ.

In essence, it's forced spyware installation - not unlike Sony's XCP Rootkit fiasco earlier this month. The state of Texas is suing Sony over this practice ...

The Anti virus disc was not inside the case, it is blatantly attached to the back of the package and has in bold NOTE:
Because the update was so late (almost a month) and most directories still showed Grandparents or Sweetest Day codifications, I updated mine immediately but read the AntiVirus Disc and did NOT install it. Emailed my FSB, still waiting reply.

Good call Mark, on their timing. I was thinking the same thing.

I just would like to know what deal was made between FTD/Norton Anti Virus. Did Norton pay them $5 per disk to send thier software out to each of their florist? How much of that $15 is going to whom? What is FTD's angle?

The whole thing is pretty lame, but if you are with FTD, are you that surprised? It's going to get a lot worse folks.

The cd says if you don’t install the Norton you will be see your support fees increase by $15.00 a month. Not all florists are as tech savy as this group. I can see why they are insisting florist have virus protection. From a support stand point it is easier if all there systems are the same.

i dont think i need virus protection

i do not have the internet connected to my merc system
does that mean that i am not at risk for getting viruses
so why do i need anti virus if this is true?

If you are on merc-direct your system does use the internet to transmit and receive orders.

Depends on what Mercury flavor you're running...so, do you need virus protection?
MercDirect - yes
WINGS - maybe (if connected to net, and using modem for Merc, yes...no if no connection to internet)
FTD Mercury - yes
Advantage - no (but should have firewall protection if connected to internet)
Merc 3000 - nope...should upgrade to Merc. Direct.
Merc 2000 - God help you if you still have this relic...

- H.

im on wings

all i have is the phone line connection
i use a seperate computer to connect to the internet
i think that forcing us to use their software or charge us more
is ridiculous
