Oldest granddaughter is on February vacation, so guess who's got her most of the week!! Yep, good old Nanny......
She asked today to make an arrangmitten (her pronunciation) so I gave her a vase of three week old flowers (they came in on Feb 6th except for the hydrangea which we have had since January 8th) so here are the products..... after #1 we explained "focals and balance", after two, I let her go.

How old is the young lady........they are never too young to start.

Carol is right...send her for some informal training, IF you don't think you can do it yourself.....I see some serious talent.....but, we knew "nanny" had some skilled bloodlines anyways!! :)

:pblush:
Nanny's fine school of floral design has produced a design contest winner out of a second year delivery driver! That was a coup....When she was called into the final three to do surprise package and was trembling, I just told her - don't think, just cut and stick remembering all I have said to you...
She came out the winner and not just design wise but comfort and confidence wise.
The grandkid? Her IQ is higher than her Mom's (who will be a nurse practitioner in May), so I highly doubt she'll be a florist. But in the meantime, if she really wants to learn, we'll fine tune. She has been at the shop with me since age 2. At least she remembered balance and focal in the second and third one. That's a great start. Guess I'll give her the AIFD Book of Terminology to study !!

So if you have a High IQ, you would'nt be a florist??????????
Wow, what does that say bout us? Dooh!

LOL, my IQ is a bit above "challenged" (or it was at one time)lol but in this one horse town, small business isn't where you want to go!! The schools strive for college graduates to get them away from the mill town atmosphere. And both my daughters are medical students in one form or another.
(and I have an Associates Degree in Veterinary Science don't ask me how I became a florist)

How cool is that ...teaching grandchildren seems so much more fun to me than teaching their parents. Both my g"kids learned to cook from my late husband...and I mean cook. The twelve year old knows how to make all sorts of gourmet things...he started out making pudding when he was 3 and his sister ...well she can whip up a few good things as well. They alway talk about the "presentation" of the food. Both of them talk about Joe and the things they did together all the time..bowling, teaching them to swim by the time they were 10 months old, underwater photography...and those memories will carry them far in life because he took the time. Your granddaughters will talk about you long after you are gone as well..what a gift you are giving them... but you know that. That's what makes you special.

I just set up a little design area at my shop for my granddaughter. I gave her three vases, some silk roses and a bucket for her little bench. She has been in my shop since she was 6 weeks old. Well she got busy with her roses and when I walked around the corner where her bench is located I had to laugh, all over the floor were the leaves of the silk roses, she stripped them, just like she watches Nana do! And let me tell you her arrangments are not bad and she is only 27 months old! She loves her little design area. Now when can I put her to work!!!!!!

Rhonda, I'd say that she has a gift, and that she is a gift. Hugs to you both!

And to Julz and her grand also.
