Interesting, the 800 phone number traces to Rochester MN... which confirms:

The URL was first registered in January 1999, so they've been around for a long time... the IS a Flowers by Jerry in Rochester...

Interesting page HEREHEREHERE seemingly targeting a local corporation, I got this result searching Flowers by Jerry 48640(my zip). Notice the bottom left, a list of the zips I cover... hmmm...

Does anyone have a copy of the rules and regulations for FTD? Do they still send them out with new membership? I'd be interested to see if that membership rule regarding advertising outside of your delivery area is still in there.

These guys are slick. The 'about us' page linked from the Dow Corning page includes:
Flowers by Jerry is a Premiere Florist for Dow Corning Corporation, Michigan for many reasons.
The About Us page link from Midland Hospital Center page says:
Flowers by Jerry is a Premiere Florist for Midland Hospital Center, Michigan for many reasons.
They've inserted related text from every doorway page into a related About Us page to make their site look authentic to each location.

Doubt companies like Dow condone the use of their business names as bait.

I doubt it too... I called a friend in Dow Security this morning, he's out til next week. I'm sure they won't be happy once I explain the gig. Dow is a VERy locally oriented company, especially here. Hospital probably does not care, but I have friends there too...

I'd bet you can find pages like this for any city if you look deep enough. I'll be calling "Jerry" Monday too, not that they'll care, but I'll just let them know I have added them to my list going to the state AG soon...

so flowers by Jerry does really operate out of Rochester MN> So what would be the ramifications of posting at his Google listing a review stating how Jerry lists his locations in states and cities where he is not located.

something like, Found a listing for flowers by Jerry in Augusta MA, stating they are locally owned but they are really in Minnesota. buyer beware if you are truly looking for a locally owned florist, local is Rochester MN not Midland Michigan or many other cities and states. .

also what about facebook, FFC etc? just a comment about our latest DOG...

Just getting really tired, sign me ... an honest businesswoman......

Yea Keith, I saw that logo'd building and van in the FTD fish wrap.... I thought then that it was someone that lost their marbles, but now, connecting the two, it makes more sense... Norton did a van for me way back when too... just cuz I was a "Top Member"... and heck, I only had one website and a few YP ads back then...

Funny, Bad Bobby and I talked several times about turning my store into an FTD Branded get-up... his words "you can;t afford it".... maybe that's changed... maybe I need to run out about 100,000 doorway pages.... um...no...

That's funny, since dropping TF we have had a 8% - 19% increase over LY numbers..... I'm doing more increase then the new FTD branded store :musical:

Now don't look at this last couple of weeks. If I pull of 10% this month it will be a miracle.

By signing a contract for remaining a member for 3 years in a large city in Maine, one shop got brand new awnings for his building... call it a bargain?? Not me!

I really think it is a little late to get into the dOG game. The wires are having coverage trouble already and it is getting worse every month. Plus, I get more and more phone customers every day quizzing me to make sure I am a real local business.

Have fun with all those complaints Jerry. I will be interested to see what it does to your local reputation. Remind me to check your Facebook page after Valentine's Day.

Seriously, I know the florist who owns Flowers By Jerry in Rochester, and I doubt very much if he is doing this. Something else is going on. He's probably motified! The owner's name is not Jerry, now, but the shop name is still Flowers By Jerry. They have run a wonderful shop in Rochester, MN for many, many years and I wouldn't condemn them without knowing what is really going on. I think he's a little more brilliant than that! Larson's Floral, Welch, MN

Well if you know them then see where they list they are the premiere florist in Welch, MN? Here Do they deliver in your town?? If not, then maybe you should call and ask them about this page.

For the record I can't stand FTD and I can't stand order gatherers......

But Jerrys website says they are the:

-premiere florist FOR xxx city. Not IN xxx city.
-SERVING these states. Not IN these states.

I know all you SEO people see stuff I don't but if I were a consumer I don't think I would assume they were in a particular area.

It is a tough economy. They probably are perfectly nice people just trying to survive.

Type in Fullerton Florist (my city) and you will see many people representing themselves as Fullerton Florists. I don't consider them order gatherers- just smart competition......

Problem for the consumer.... if it "looks" like they're in my city, then MY order goes to them and YES I come up first in google and usually the others when doing a search for my town. It is plain down and out confusing the consumer when they say they are the "premiere florist for" any town they are not located in. Blatant misuse of words for their own gain........ Dishonest...... Order Gatherer...... and reported to my state attorney general and taxation departments. If they're the premiere florist for every town in Maine, they must pay sales tax if the order originates in Maine..........

Our new Oregon law will clear this up as to the creative wordsmiths in the DOG world.
It says if a "reasonable consumer would believe" that this business is in Oregon. it seems a more clear approach and prevents them from parsing words.

Florists for Change is strongly behind efforts to legislate these dishonest business practices.
