Yea, those beer baskets sell all year long, not matter what. We do not have a lic to sell the hard stuff.. We have customers asking to bring in their favorite hooch (hard or beer), but it is against the law for them to bring it in ...here in Tejas.

sucks for you

In approx four months we are moving across the street. Currently we are right next door to Starbucks, we will now be right next door to a big ole' liquour store. I do wonder if that will help. Actually, I think it will, as they want us to put in a small display of bouquets on Fri and Sat! Plus we get a parking lot rather than a bus stop in front of our store. In both good and bad economies people still drink. They should forgoe the hangover and buy flowers instead!
Great sign.....This bud's for you!

Or, are you to young to remember that tag line from Budweiser?

It was quite a few years ago, but a florist got into trouble for that tagline.

They decided for Valentine's day to sell single roses in budweiser bottles and used that tagline in their advertisements.......and budweiser corp threatened them with all kinds of litigation and copyright stuff.

So the frayed knot sat up straight as a arrow and turned around to gleam himself in the mirror, feeling lucky to be admired by a bowl of nuts, the knot grabs his beer like a stud and downs a swig.

Immediately he spit the beer out and sickly said, "dam. this beer tastes like piss! And Popeye sitting on the next stool turns to the knot and says
I'm sorry but if I get up those dam monkeys will steal mine.

So the frayed knot turns and runs out of the bar. Popeye feeling bad about trading glasses with the knot orders a fresh pint. While he is looking around the bar, a monkey swings down and steals the pint of beer from him before he is able to stop the monkey.

Popeye bewildered again asks the barman who owns the monkey. The barman replies the piano player. Popeye walks over to the piano player and says "pardon me matie, do you know your monkey stole my beer." The pianist replies "No, but if you hum it, I'll play it."

Yeah I heard about the gun sales as well. makes me nervous....my dad owns a huge safe with lots of firearms. me? well I've just got a good ole' Marine Corps Sword....slightly sharpened. No guns in this house. It's ok though...hubby taught me the Grab, Pull, Twist! ;)

Thom....you're hilarious....loving this story!! So how does the song sound??

Sometimes I think waiters and waitresses make more money the U.S. mean average. The other night, Anna and I were out, spent a $95 something on a the meal, and gave the waitress $15 in a tip for about 10 minutes of work. I don't understand why diners are made to feel obligated to pay these workers 15-20 pct of the meal. I mean had I spent only $50 that waitress would have received $7.50 or whatever the pct'ge would have been for doing the EXACT same work.

Are the servers paid less than the normal minimum in your area? They are here. Was it a good 10 minutes or a adequate 10 minutes?

Alana makes her living as a server. She makes a good living, because she is good at it. She also works very very hard. She would say thank you to you for your generosity for that "10 minutes". More often than not however, she'll bust her butt for a table of 6 or more and they'll leave a buck (maybe each). And the policy at her place of work says they have to share the tips with the kitchen and chefs... all of whom make more per hour.

It's interesting going out to dinner with her and her friends. They are very generous to the servers... they understand the highs and lows of the job.

just a quick note to add to those businesses doing well beside the liquor industry is the gun business. watching a report today on tv that folks are freaked out that obama is going to try to take away their rights to own a firearm, they want to get a firearm before that happens.

i have to say that just after obama was elected, i too am in the market to purchase a firearm. anyone else looking to do so should be aware that it took quite some time to receive the FOID because of the backlog of folks doing the same thing.

Sharon, did you also know there is a pending bill in Congress that could make organic farming illegal?

Why would you want to? I watched the news again today... Alabama and Germany... Vancouver B.C. in Canada. I just don't understand it and I never will. I'm sure the forefathers of your country didn't have any of this in mind when they wrote it into your Bill of Rights or whatever.

V

No V they didn't....people had more respect back then I suppose. People held themselves accountable more...a personal responsiblity for their own actions. Now, everyone just tries to find a way to make it some else's fault/problem/disease as to why.

Victoria, why would i want to own a gun? the reasons that are happening right now regarding the government and it's ability (thanks to the democrats being in control) to endlessly tax the people. the forefathers wrote it is the right of the people to keep and bear arms. i recall a similar situation in our history when there was a "Tea Party" uprising against england when the people were taxed too much. when is it people will say enough is enough? i don't know, but when they do, i want to be prepared. i want to be able to protect myself and my family.

obama wants to change that right of americans to keep and bear arms. he made no secret of it. he is plowing through every promise that he made to the people that helped get him elected to the tune of untold trillions of dollars.

Okay... so when the taxes get to be too much you can shoot your way out of it.

V, I am not sure I understand your sentiment. are you complimenting me for my tipping practice or scolding me because I surmised that I gave a waitress $15 for her helping me for "10 minutes"? I am interpreting the quotations marks as an editorial comment on your part. y/n?

I don't have a problem paying a waitress/waiter 15 pct for normal service or 20 pct for exceptional service. My problem is that the compensation is predicated on the value of the meal.

A waiter or waitress expends the same amount of effort serving an appetizer, a couple drinks, and entree no matter if that combination equals $50, $100 or $150.

So why base the pay on the value of the meal?

Are ya'll taking bout guns or tipping? If I were to bare my flabby arms it could work as a weapon. Maybe. I would'nt get tipped for it and I would still pay taxes.

Chez, i will be happy to talk about guns. I enjoy shooting, both animate and inanimate objects.

FTR: I am mostly a shotgun guy.

Well then, feel free to shoot a hole through Thom's utopian bubble dream of Starbucks ever agreeing to partner with a local business like me. They used to let us put a flower arrangement in thier store with business cards. But they just hired a new demon, I mean, manager and her policy is not to let us do this. The employees are bummed because they really liked our groovy arrangements. It's weird because Starbucks is all about advertising to help African countries by selling pure water etc..but they have driven endless local mom and pop coffee shops out of business in the western world. Starbutts.
