Christmas WS products compared.....

Same as Eric here. This is our second Christmas with zero codified products. Our analysis showed we were primarily moving them as wire-ins and that our local customers were choosing designs with more dollar value in the flowers and less in the container.

This has been our experience as well. We rarely carry codified product, haven't in years. If I have a weak moment and order a case I almost always regret it. People really do want the value in the flowers.

The only request for codified product have been from other florists that don't read the directory info properly. Not a single consumer has asked about coded product.

Your last sentence is interesting. Somehow TF had me listed in the $5 coupon advertising in the three major newspapers' inserts serving my area.

We received an unusually and relatively large amount of walk in business and telephone business asking for one of TF's branded products for Christmas.

The point here is....

For the last several years, TF offered a $3 coupon, once it hit $5, we have seen a lot more interest in TF products.

A five dollar coupon seems to be a good target point for increased sales.

Without any adverstising of TF current Christmas product, sans Kincade cottage, we have received a lot of calls wanting TF product.

I think that $5 coupon is largely responsible.

FTD is almost non-existent for Christmas this year. I have received some Merc orders from Real flower shops but none from .com or affiliates. I think I have been kicked out of their sandbox.

Joe, I think coupons motivate people very well. I wonder though if it is really the product they're after or if they just see the $5 savings. A lot of times people buy just to save money, kind of crazy. Human nature I guess.

Speaking of branded products .... I too wish florists would READ their listings...

Seems that we are getting 3-4 a day asking for Kincade crap, via FTD orders...and NO I am not TF...

Few requests for the FTD stuff from customers...this is our 2nd year with no branded holiday items...has not been an issue locally!

I was going to stay out of this discussion since we are no longer WS, and we are still trying to move those remaining WS containers from years past (sold several yesterday from the display coolers), but Joe's comment about coupons caused me to remember that many folks who picked up our calendars (JH), looked at the inside back cover first. We realized, after being asked about it, that they were looking for coupons. Guess what will be on our calendars next year????

TF's Tartan was a dawg. Kinkade burned the barn tho...

JB, I have yet to hear anyone say anything positive with the Tartan bowl. Kincade cottage was the only thing I bought and we rationed supplies of that.

Next year I will probably start with 36 and negotiate another 12 later on.

The Tartan was a bomb...even in an area in which we really move w/s product. Don't ask me why, can't figure it out...but we sell the stuff, and have gotten pretty good at mass-producing it too.

The Kinkades sold out...again. Blew through 72 of them. Then, bought 8 more from other shops in our delivery pool. It's so strange how in some areas they move and others - say an hour away - they just sit.

We sold our very last one to one of our holiday drivers who said if there was one left on C-mas eve, he would buy it...and he did!

ALL FTD product sold - even the white cube with the 6 roses (but I attribute that to the artsy-fartsy area in which we reside...). The only other thing to not move was the TEL Winter Wonderland... I blame that on an iffy design.

PS - I'm curious to see how the Kinkade Chapel for Easter moves...Hmmm.

Herb, That Kincade Easter thing will probably sell to the clientele that have been collecting the Christmas Kincade stuff.

I think it will help with lagging Easter Sales.

I miss Easter as a flower sending Holiday.
