corsage technique

The difference in 40 corsages to 400 is huge, and obviously you have to adapt, to quicker more efficient techniques.

Yes big difference when the numbers get that high. Perhaps if we had a school right next to us then I could be little sympathetic to the nightmare of doing 400 corsages. We just haven't had our taste of that yet and perhaps when the new schools go in behind us we will see what its really like.

Twilia,

Do you use the tubette from Lion Ribbon or do you make your own ribbon tubes? I'm trying to repilcate what you are doing but my brain is having a hard time picuturing it ... maybe I need more coffee

Designer Dispatch has the Wired Satin Tubing. You can usually always get white, black and silver. My preference has always been the ivory. They have had a problem with the wire stiffness with the ivory that they have been working on. I don't think that it has been corrected yet-I may be wrong tho. I was lucky to be able to purchase a bunch of colors when they were on clearance from one of our suppliers. So when we are making our bows, we try to match the wristlet color to the bow. We have red, teal, gold, ivory, wine, pink and blue. Wish they would bring them back.

We also tried using another product called Bedford Bendable Ribbon that Ardith Beveridge showed at one program we were at. You can do several loops for the bow, then use a couple for the wristlet on the back. It is a shiny plastic covered metal. It works, but not as comfortable. It does come in a bunch of colors. I don't know where you would purchase this product from.

One tip to remember about glueing that I learned the HARD way.

DO NOT dip/submerge the flowers in an anti-transpirant solution (such as Crowning Glory) - I tried that one year after hearing about the technique at a show. I tried it with spray roses and they held for 4 days without water....just soaking the entire flower head in the solution.

What I did not know and wasn't told is that the anti-transpirant gives the flowers a waxy coating that keeps the Oasis Adhesive from adhering.......Every single one of the corsages that I had used treated flowers on....the flowers fell right off and you could see where I had placed every flower because there was a little dob of glue.

Needless to say, I busted my hiney fixing those corsages BIG-TIME !!!!!!!

I'll not make that mistake again - Now, I make the corsage fully complete, let the glue dry, then spray over it with the anti-transpirants.

BEDFORD BENDABLE RIBBON is an Offray brand and most wholesalers should carry that I should think......perhaps you could find it easier in the Christmas sections.
