Do containers make the man?

Flip the box right side up to expose edge.

Take your plastic card and bend over edge starting at one end. Smooth down with card till it's perfect.

For some reason the last two photos are taking to much time to download. You got the finished photo earlier.

To finish, simply peel tape and stick to on the inside bottom and run it to the end. Smooth out with card and you done.

It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it. This Aluminum Tape is really pretty cool stuff. I would say cost is about 17 bucks and 20 minutes of production. If I knew Marcy sold these this week, I would have used a wider board on the bottom so that I could use those black plastic trays the size of a brick of oasis because I have to mix flowers on each end with assorted candy in the middle. Oh well, there's always the next time.
I should get a life time of use out of these.

I'll snap a few finish shots this weekend once they are placed on the tables at the venue.

regarding Flowers and Containers........I go by this simple rule. The flowers are number 1 and the container number 2.

The container and the flowers SHOULD work TOGETHER to form a harmonious whole composition. A vast majority of wire special containers DETRACT from the beauty of the flowers.....they put the container first and the flowers second.

If we are to call ourselves FLORISTS....sellers and lovers of FLOWERS.....then the container must always be subordinate to the flowers.

In the UK we seem to use containers alot less in design. Hand tieds ar more the normal over here.
I think if you are good at design then you should in theory be able to use any container to create a design for any occassion.
If someone requested a had tied in a vase I would quote the vase price and then let the sender know how much the flowers need to be to fill the chosen vase.

i have to disagree. jmho.

i always choose the vase first when preparing an arrangement. i don't believe the container should be "subordinate" because not all flowers work with every container.

i believe each piece is a work of art thereby, i consider the piece as a whole.

if money allows, i prefer not to use the standard clear vase. alright, i admit i'm a vase whore. if i choose a container or vase that is anything but clear, it has a greater chance of not ending up in a cupboard above the refrigerator. it always has my sticker on the bottom of it and my twisted "psychology" of it begs to be filled. maybe by me again.

The answer to your question is quite relative to YOUR customers' preferences. The first time we got out of the wire service/s we lost quite a few customers. Some people just can't be talked into a non-novelty holiday container - especially Christmas.

We started buying older years TF & FTD (mostly TF) and people just love them. Older years because I can get what originally cost anywhere from $4.99 to $9.99 plus shipping for under $2.00 INCLUDING shipping, one was $2.50. So I take my cue from my customers.

We got back in the WS's during promo's and I will not buy current holiday containers anymore. I describe or point to our website for them to see what I can offer and very rarely (maybe 2 times a year) do they not go with something else as they are all so cute (as they say).

Sometimes a clear glass vase goes a long way, just like a cheap throw away novelty container for a beautiful Christmas centerpiece with candles.

Many give up the want of a nicer container as they don't want to spend THAT much but they REALLY did want it. So by me buying them so cheap I can give them the container they really want for a reasonable price. This is done on the phone, not on our website. The vast majority of folks call anyway.

I use mostly clear or colored vases because most of my customers want the money into the flowers. There are many flowers that do not do well in oasis. Like, gerbera,
stock, daffadils. I always buy Canadian gerbera, they are quality unsurpassed. I've had a gerbera in a vase on my windowsill for over 4 weeks! Just went limpy two days ago.

A black vase is always nice for sending to a male at the office. I found the black vases are pricey, but found them at a clearance.
Ceramic is good too.
If I use a ceramic pot I just add chicken wire for an easy design base.

I prefer containers to be under $4 unless I need something special for an event.

Johan and Paula, if you only sell hand ties, what does your customer use to put the flowers in when they get home? Aren't you missing out on an added sell by not selling a vase or container with it, or do you sell lots of empty vases for folks to have at home? Just curious what the average customer uses to hold the flowers later.

We try to not limit or dictate to our customers what they are allowed to have container wise, we try to provide a small assortment of whatever we think a customer might want. We also carry the TF containers, most of the time they work for us and some of them the customers buy just the piece, like the Kinkade house. As a designer, I agree that the container can have a big impact on the style of the design, complement it and complete it. A beautiful ceramic piece with just the right design can sell in a heartbeat in the cooler and do a lot for the look of the designs on display and up your reputation. If it's all vases and wire service containers and designs it will look like everyone else's store. We're trying to stay out of that rut, speaking of which, we have yet to get a custom design made and photoed for Christmas for the website, not enough hours in the day for sure.
