I do, and have for years... sometimes I chat with whoever's there and tell them I'm a florist too, sometimes I don't. But I always have the compulsion to go in and look. I think that's known as a busman's holiday, heh.

So do you guys do that or do you avoid any flower shops while vacationing?

I head for the florist shops on vacation. If it's after hours I peek in the windows. I love to see what other people do with their shops. I want to go to Europe and visit shops there too.
Am I nuts?:boggles:

Every one I can - we visited Field of Flowers on this last trip to Florida - wonderful concept and shop.

hehe...ditto as for the shop snooping! ALL the time!! Great to gather ideas from others non?!
Oh and you're welcome to come and visit ;)...i'm in :gerflag:!!!

Sure do! It's one of my favorite parts of vacation.

Absolutely...Have for as far back as I can remember....

Love it...I sometimes can find some where I go though and it is sad...for me..

I have and probably should more often. I usually go in "looking" and eventually go into my speech about Maine State Florists' Association and offer them to check it out. Usually it's because just looking around I can see they need education and networking of some kind!!
I always come back into my shop as a consumer (which I do everyday anyway) and compare what I see at my shop compared to shop(s) I visit for pros and cons.

Once in a while I will shop hop. But we tend to do hiking and fishing vacations and there really aren't any shops in the boonies. :)

Now the next time I get to the keweenaw I know of two shops to visit :) Nähdään pian.

We always check out other shops

We always check out shops in other towns. We also always tell whoever offers to wait on us that we are florists from Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It's great sharing ideas and seeing what others do.

We are about 2 1/2 hours west of Merced. How long are you going to be here?
I forgot to tell you, when my family/friends go on vacation I ask them to bring me back pictures of florist shops (the outside). It works out great and they usually go into the shop, talk to them and find out all kinds of things about the shop, city, etc.

Sharon, I am going with 5 other people and will be there for a couple of days. Odds are the time will be filled with stuff to do. But...if we have an afternoon of nothing going on, and a car available, I will suggest to my hubby that we do a little road trip. :>

Santa Cruz is nice!.. it would be worth the trip. I used to live a couple hours north of there.

I love visiting other shops. When I was in Cuba this last April I visited 2 florists, 1 was in a Matanzas in a ladys home and she was making a wreath for a funeral, something very similar to what you would find in an old FTD catalog. The second was a vendor at the market in Cardenas, there were tons and tons of gladiolas and roses. I bought 10 glads for my host at the very low price of $2 and that was "tourist price".

I try to, but usually only if I don't have the kids & hubby with me.

I was SO moved by my last 2 trips to London and Amsterdam that I came home and revamped my whole store!!!

These are 2 of the flower stands in Amsterdam. I don't have bunched flowers in proconas out in the front of my store, but I was blown away none the less.

Always looking for ideas, I love to visit other shops in outside areas. I used to be "shy" and not mention that I was a florist; now if they don't seem busy, I introduce myself and tell them about flowerchat, talk for a bit. I prefer to talk to the owners if they're available, and try to not take up too much time. Most people seem to enjoy meeting other shop owners. Stinky part is that I don't vacation often enough!
