I Love to shop hop whenever I am out of town! My favorite thing to do!
Here is an article I wrote for a local paper regarding a shop I visited.
The Power of Flowers
“I don’t sell flowers. I sell the value they hold, the feelings
and emotions they represent; the smiles they bring.”
Flowers influence the emotions. Flowers can speak volumes.
That is why we purchase cut flowers - for the moment; to get or give that unique feeling that buzzes up inside your soul; this feeling that I can't really describe.
When I am visiting other cities, I seek out flower shops, my favorite pastime. I love to see how other florists spend their days. Recently, I was with a friend and we found ourselves in front of a small storefront that was a flower shop. Very different than Stems, really. One small room, not very inviting, but, something drew me inside. The artist at work was busy with her pieces and let me know without words that she didn't really have time for me.
I understood. She pretty much only wanted to know what I needed, and she wanted to know pretty quickly. There was no lingering to be had in this shop. There wasn’t a lot to look at or even room to move around.
So, I asked her to make me a bouquet and gave her an amount to work with. She didn't ask me what I liked in flowers or colors. This was her deal. Ok, I let her do her thing. Create. I was the customer and I would wait to see what this artist could do.
While she did not impress me with a warm welcome, or conversation, she created an absolutely wonderful bouquet! It was
as if she just knew what I should have. I loved it! I was watching her perform with the flowers and felt a strange excitement build. She put them in lots and lots of colorful tissue. I realized that this beautiful bundle of flower stems arranged in a bouquet was for me.
My soul was filling with a buzz. The feeling was indescribable.
This feeling is something you get when you give flowers and also the same feeling you get when you receive flowers. If you have
never experienced this, try delivering a bundle of flowers to someone unsuspecting. The recipient is so excited. Their emotions are unrehearsed and real, and the feeling actually transcends onto you.
In Eckhart Tolle’s new book A New Earth, Awakening to Your Life’s
Purpose, he describes a flower as fleeting, ethereal, “a messenger from another realm, like a bridge between the world of physical forms and the formless.”
Sometimes, a message from another realm is just what is needed
to make someone’s day.
