Chef Ramsey?

Have you see his show where he goes into a restaurant and totally revamps it in a week. Decor and all.

He takes on a failing business and gets it on the road to recovery.

I could see it now. BOSS & CHR team up for a FLORIST Reality Show.
1-800 could be the sponsor (just kidding).

Yea - I'd do it!

Hey, after 99 years, we must be doing something right. BUT there is ALWAYS room for improvement, and something "fresh."

Too many shops I have seen have a stale look... You need to jazz things up a bit! Flip your front store...cooler and all (if possible). One thing that does ('cause we did it years ago) was to REALLY confuse your customers - in a good way! When they walk in - after being absent for a while - they are like - wow - what happened!?!?!?!

- H.

I love him........dang he's nasty but tells it like it is.

I have went to shops in the past and did this for them, and also he so fine,,,,wow, sorry guys,

Yes shops need to flip them often, yes I darn well do, 3 months ago, we had ortential rugs in the front area by the door now we have hard wood cherry, and then of course tile and marble, yes my store looks like a house inside and changes regular, if you are in business, you have to keep up with trends, it is not expensive to do, just do it, also one that sticks in mind. Clean them coolers folks, Yes as some know I travel alot , and I do go look at shops, and heavens some are a hot mess, but I do have my favorites, One in Jersey , smells so wonderful, I don't know what it is, but I could spend all day there, LOVE LOVE IT>>>

How about it J. . . . . .?

you beat me to the punch bama....i was thinking the same thing...although J scwenke would get my vote for host.....dirty buckets, etc....he would have a field day....:treadonme

EXCELLENT suggestion.

Chef Ramsey.. lol too funny! can't you just hear it?
" LOOK AT THIS!! how did you let this HAPPEN??! $^%^% It's time to take a stand.. your long time designer has GOT TO GO! %*# .....

Glenn -

Back in the old days (25 years ago or so), some of us used to do make-overs by spending a Sat-Sun at fellow florists' shops. A group of three or four would target a different store each weekend and we'd rotate through until each shop was done.

New sets of hands and eyes on older merchandise can do wonders with both products and displays.

As far as the florist equivalent of Chef Ramsey goes, I nominate my husband. He's tough, demanding and is great at assessing and identifying what's fixable and what's workable (with far fewer expletives). :tongue

I was thinking this too! "Those dirty buckets will KILL some flowers"...he was nicer on the British version of the show but he really seems to care. Some of the chefs remind me of one or two "designers" I've known, lots of attitude and know everything.

But who suspected America had so many filthy restaurant kitchens?

what a great idea!!maybe combine a couple of different shows... we could have the FC design team.. "driver.. MOVE THAT DELIVERY VAN!!"

and I would vote for your husband too.. I saw him in Reno (it was my first show ever) and he has a quiet AUTHORITY about him..very tough and to the point.

I've often thought about this - Janis is an avid Ramsey fan and we've watched his shows for years.

I don't think we even need the show for florists - just watch Ramsey, all his advice applies.

1) Do a few things, and do them really well.
2) Only the finest, freshest product.
3) Service is essential.
4) Don't clutter your retail area - decorate with care and a theme.
5) Know your books. Intimately. Know your expenses, and monitor at all times.
6) Maximize the use & ROI on your purchases.

What I like about Ramsey over other shows like Restaurant Makeover is that he delves into the business side, making owners AND employees understand and care about things like revenue and break-even points.

Fun Idea...

It's J Schwanke.... I am over in Amsterdam attending the Horti-fair and the Alsmeer Auction Show... You have a great idea... it would be great to get the air time to teach the American public to love flowers the way we Florists Do...
I have seen so many amazing things the last three days and a multitude of stores I would Love to WORK in...
Organic, artistic, "green"... etc... I was talking to Chad Nelson today from Eufloria about creating a program about FLIPPING Your SHOP... and turning it into a FLOWER SELLING MACHINE...

Guess that is food for thought!!!! Eh?!

Cathy... I can't think of anyone I would Respect More and be More "intimedated" by than PHIL! He gets my vote! hehehe!

I remember J's story about selling the $14,000 funeral in Eddy's shop - yeah we could use some advice like that.

Come on back to Oregon amigo.

J we miss you in the Pacific NW!!! You promised me that you would come see us...when is that going to be?

Twila:dearbob:

Already on my radar... I am coming to Portland Next Year... for a Spring Show at Greenleaf Wholesale...

It will be April 6, 2008. So I hope to get over your way and see both Jonathan and Twila!

Hope you are well... I am getting plenty of ideas over here in Amsterdam!
The Flower Capital of the World!

What does everyone think about a JTV Tour of Amsterdam and the Horti-fair and the Alsmeer Retail Trade Show next year... 2008?

We could come over and film it for those that may not be able to attend...and have a couple of shows on JTV?

Good Idea???

Let me know!

Thanks gang!
