Dozen roses in two minutes

did 75 once for bridal bouquet - that was quite enough.... BTW, ordered both shears from CHR's hubby... maybe they'll help my hands... :)

Just throwing this into the mix, what does everyone use to clean their tools? This is one place I am lacking for sure. We do clean all our buckets after every use. We have a spray bottle of bleach that we use & a scrub brush, rinse & air dry always! Thanks for the suggestions!

1.) How to clean tools - I usually use the DCD bucket wash and scrub brush, make sure to get bristles in as far as you can between blades on cutters. You DO scrub your buckets after every use, right?;)

2.) Tree fern and pitt would work, but the pitt would get awfully expensive. Also, I had already been a designer for 10 years before I ever attempted the dozen in the hand, so I've been doing it for 20+ years, I may have an advantage! That's why I don't mind putting it for public view on youtube, it may LOOK easy but......;)

I do know about scrubbing buckets, lol.

I got all new tools so I'm ready now. And I will clean them daily. How often should I replace them?

And you make the rose vase look so easy in the youtube video. I should have video taped my 2nd attemot... what a mess. I'm determined to learn this by Valentines Day though.

...and luckily my house is surrounded by walls of pittosporum (the reason I chose it) so I use that in everything.

Sarah- I have a couple of knives that I have had since 1995. The first ones I ever bought. I love them. I had 3 but someone swiped one of them, the jerks! I lose my mind if someone even touches my knives or tools. I buy all my own tools, and no body better touch them! I have my knives and scissors PROFESSIONALLY sharpened as often as needed. I "hone" them myself. Sharpening and honing are 2 different things. It usually costs me no more than $10 to have about 5 things sharpened. Clean your tools every week.

As a general rule of thumb, I usually replace my cutters twice a year, right before processing VD roses, and again in August to get ready for holiday season.

Tip : Do not use your newer cutters for cutting pine, use old ones. You don't have to worry about damaging the holiday greens, but you DO have to worry about damaging your good cutters.

I have no doubts in my mind that you will master your own technique, you have an admirable "go get em" attitude that will take you where you want to go.
