Somehow I have allowed myself to run out of the Oasis Floral glue... with one lousy corsage left to make for tomorrow's wedding. What else can I use? I'd rather not have to drive to the Portland Flower Market in the am to get a tube!

If it makes you feel any better, you are not alone in this boat. We have a big event at our warehouse on Monday and Tuesday and Fitz gluing demonstrations are a key part of the event. Our cases of glue that we ordered from Oasis over a week ago still haven't arrived. We are nervously holding our breath... We are going to be in one giant kettle of fish if they don' get here tomorrow...

Hot glue works JUST Fine! Hey when they first started gluing corsages, guess what they used HOT PAN GLUE, not glue gun glue.

And yes, it works fine. I've done it a bazillion times. And I'd still do it had I not been talked into the "new" glue method.

Just in case you didn't know, when using pan glue, make sure your flowers are at room temperature, use lots of glue on the stems to hold in place and always let your BEAUTIFUL corsage set out of the cooler for awhile before refrigerating them. If you put them in too soon the glue may not be hardened enough & that can cause the flowers to come loose. We have been doing this for years & it works great.

So I went out to the shop last night to dig for my glue gun, when lo and behold I found a tube of Oasis glue. Whew! Next time I'm at the wholesaler I'd better stock up... Now that I'm proficient at gluing corsages, the thought of wire and tape seems like such a pain! (Cory at Fitz will be so proud of me, ha ha)

Don't use a glue pan either. The hot glue is bad for the flowers and does not hold as well.

Just stock up on the good stuff!

I knew you would disagree. But I said it anyway because I have heard more than one expert, including J Schwanke, say that the hot glue harms the flowers. Its in this video, http://www.ubloom.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=656&Itemid=152.

Ahh, that's cause he's promoting the glue- hey- I'm an expert too. :)

Have you ever personally hot glued a corsage and seen for yourself?
I have a bazillion times. AND I've tested them as well. And Have left them out sitting on a counter in dry dry New Mexico. Never a problem. Except with true sterling silver roses. Everything else was A-OK.
Regardless- I do use the oasis floral adhesive now. Don't ever want to be accused of being old fashioned!

My point is though- Pan glue can be used in a pinch. But it must be the yellow pan glue.

In 5 to 10 years they are gonna tell us that oasis floral adhesive sucks and now use "this" -whatever "this" happens to be at the time. :)

I have used glue gun glue and that does fall apart...Glue pan glue if done on cold flowers will let go..I have had the flowers burn from pan glue also from glue being too hot, not to mention the strings and mess and the yellow a$$ glue...but if done right they will hold, I like the oasis glue better, but in a pinch...I would wire and tape...then hot pan if it needed that glued look...

I was taught to glue corsages using pan glue. Glued all my prom corsages with it for a great many years before trying the oasis glue. Yes, after a few days the stems shrink and can fall out of the pan glued corsage but after a few days, the prom or wedding is over. I now use oasis glue (don't care for it but use it) for proms and corsages but the day of the event? I'll use pan glue, quicker drying.... and yes, the dumb yellow pillows!

First, J does not sell Oasis. He designs for Floracraft, which is Oasis's competition.

Second, I have heard other AIFD designers, who also do not sell Oasis, recommend the product. And aren't we always talking on here about wonderful AIFD designers are?

Third, I don't design. I don't pretend to. I don't claim to. I spend all day talking with florists from all over the country. I likely talk to more florists in a week than you do in a year. Many, many, many of whom request Oasis floral adhesive because they say that it is better. We were forced into becoming Oasis distributors, all over that glue. We aren't even making any decent money selling it. We do it as a courtesy to our customers that ask for it constantly.

Fourth, I have an experienced designer who worked in different florist shops for years, sitting in my warehouse gluing corsages for a design show we are having on Monday and Tuesday. She is using Oasis. She made us get the Oasis here in time so that she could use it.

Yes Shannon, we all know that you are an expert. But there are other people on the planet that know something too. You don't have to slam everyone all of the time.

Oh good grief Sarah- relax...

My statement was tongue in cheek (hence the smilies!)

And the main part of my statement was that "in a pinch" glue pan glue can be used.

BTW- It was all those wonderful AIFD designers promoting hot pan glue 20 years ago!

Here's another cheesey smiley for ya- :>
and a kiss *mmmmuahhh* and a ((((((hug)))))
