faux hand-tied technique?

I know some of the gals here only do hand ties but we have mostly done bouquet holders and have only recently done more hand ties, little more cost effective to me to do the hand tie. If the gal wants perfectly round, I always advise the bouquet holder, especially if she is not looking to spend $200 or more. The hand ties seem to have a more up swept appearance from the side, but the bouquet holder you can go really round, but that depends on your design style, I've seen them done very flat lol.

Wow! You guys like torture! I take the stems and gather around the handle and attach with waterproof oasis tape, wrapped tightly just under the top of the handle. Easy as pie...no fuss...no muss...no glue...ewww! Just add your handle treatment over the oasis tape. Works like a charm!

Has anyone used the new handheld holders??

They are a cylinder shape and come in two sizes. They have oasis on the top and the bottom. So you design your bouquet in the top and add stems to the bottom, wrap the middle and you have a faux hand held bouquet in a water source.

I have not yet used them but saw them at my wholesaler and plan on buying some. They are not any more expensive than the trad. holder.

I used them a couple of times and didn't care for the result. The large were particularly hard to hold ( I have small hands).

V- Are they hard to design in or is it the large is just too large around?

I have not yet used them but was interested in them.
I also found them hard to use - the top oasis is very very small - look at the height of the foam. Also, in inserting stems into the bottom to make the handle, the water leaked, and I didn't feel confident that the leaking would stop ... it seemed to dribble even well after completing the bouquet....

I am with you guys those are a mess!! I just got in the mail from Flora Craft a free sample of the new Gala bouquet holder I am looking forward to trying it out. Our very own J designed it. Kinda modern updated look I really like it.

Just got this also, am excited to send in and get my free sample.

I have used the other ones, the cylinders. I had thought I would like them, but really didn't, not enough room to work with and they dripped alot, had to wait til day of wedding to wrap.

So, perhaps this is a stupid question... but when do you decide to use a bouquet holder and when do you hand tie? Is water source the only issue? I have a bride who wants a very "perfectly round" bouquet of roses in Sept, would a bouquet holder help me achieve this shape?
How do you get a bouquet that is the same size as a hand tied but has less product? Is it really the same size?
I know its totally weird, but I have never used a bouquet holder!

The "perfectly round" bouquet is a great place to use the bouquet holder. I use the holders when I can't get the look with a hand tied. For example a lily bouquet... they just don't work well in a hand tied because nothing is a the same level. I'll try to put a pic up....

Thanks for the pics!!! I have been wanting to look at a few. I like the leaves you used to cover the holder... is that just Ivy? Beautiful!
I tried to google "bouquet holder rose bouquet" and a bunch of stuff like that, but nothing came up. So I appreciate the photos.

I have pics of bouquets on the gallery, but they aren't as good of side views, mostly top views, all done with the bouquet holders. We also do all the fancy trimming on the handle, nice satin ribbon with the french knots, pearls and all that. There may be a page somewhere I posted of different bouquet handle styles.

Both Carrieann. I wouldn't use them again, nor would I recommend them.

I am just afraid that one false move and the handle slips out and the bokay goes flying....a dab of hot glue just makes me feel better...

We use them for "handtied" alstro bouquets, sometimes with an accent of delph or something similar. Alstro seems to wilt too fast in a regular handtied for us. We wrap the holder with ribbon and hot glue it. We put the stems in the bottom the night before the wedding and place them in vases so they can stop dripping. Never have had a problem with them. Oh, we use the small size.
