well......second day was great.....only one small difficulty......after a period of unenployment coupled with the car accident.....it ain't easy having to be on the feet for eight hours at a stretch now. Got to get back used to being on the feet.

30 minutes for lunch, 10 minute break in morning, 10 minute break in afternoon.

another thing takes some getting used to is the sheer amount of available product to use. They stock more permanents than a lot of traditional wholesalers stock......and items in other departments....available to use as well.

Their pricing system for labor and the like is actually comparable to a traditional florist.

retail cost of container......
total retail cost of materials in design.....

add those two totals together.......

multiply that total by 30 percent......to get labor cost in dollars.

sum is retail price.

example - 10.00 container, 20.00 materials, - 30.00 total x 30percent = 9.00

so, 10 + 20 + 9 = 39.00 retail cost.

Rick,
Some places don't include the container in the labor charge, just the supplies and mechanics. I thought we stocked a ton of silks untill I went in a store in Spokane called Madison Country, a good 2,000 sq feet packed of silks and arrangements alone, I thot I'd died and gone to heaven.

When you are considering these finished pieces will be a part of people's homes for probably years, they want it to be exactly what they want, takes a large selection to make people happy, and a large variety to fit the home decor and coloring of many homes. We are still in the tuscan look in this area, what "look" do you see being predominant there? I also like a more botanical look as well. NDI has some great examples.

I see a real leaning toward realistic permanent botanicals. - no silk 'blue' roses.

Yes, there are 'cemetery quality' silks.....as they do a fair amount in memorial design sales......but other than that......really good residential quality permanents

Yay Rick, how fun is that getting to work with nice stuff? Sorry about the cemetery stuff though. I wish I could talk my boss into carrying Winward silks, haven't made it yet though.

Well, even the 'cemetery quality' silks have a realistic look about them......Colors and flowers found in nature.

Happy to hear of your new venture is working out, and you seem to be pleased. You fair better than some.... you get a pay check!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hehe
