I need help. I have a wedding THIS weekend. I have to make the cube arrangements with sliced oranges stuck to the sides. I can't figure out how the .....(beep).. to do this. I experimented today, I sliced my oranges and simply stuck them to the sides....and they floated.
I put in a block of oasis and slid them down the sides between the oasis and the glass....they still floated to the top. I used oasis glue. (thought I had it !) and...they floated to the top!! grrrrrrrrrrr

HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have to use real oranges? I would think it would be easier to use the fake kind and use an adhesive to get them to stay, if you wanted them in a certain place and not moving.

I had a person (not a customer) who was trying to do the "make lemonade" arrangement herself and called me to ask how to get the lemons to float in the water. She said her's sank. When I told her they were "faux" so didn't know what to say!

you just use a plastic liner that is a little smaller than the outside container. You can use water (or not) but the water should be added after you have made all the tweaks .
good luck!

i do this with limes and studio is right, use halfs instead of slices and then wedge them into each other i tried to attach a pic to show you. but do not have a pic on this comp, look on my website www.about-flowers.co.uk and you will see it in the weddings page, just scroll down. hope this helps,

Thanks for all the advise !!!!

I'll be doing more experimenting tomorrow.

How far ahead do you think I can make these. How long will he fruit hold up?

After this the only sliced fruit I'm going to mess with will be in my cocktails!

Two ideas.

Use slices with oasis. Using bank pins fasten the slices to the oasis before inserting into the cube.

Alternately, slice the oranges and spread the slices out to dry for a day. The slice will probably heal the cut edges and dry the surface allowing the glue to hold to them.

I usually place a smaller size cube inside a bigger one, and just slide the sliced oranges or limes in between the two, and voila! It's snug and holds just fine.

With the sliced fruit designs, how long will the fruit look good?
Would you say this is more of an event design than a send out for an
order design?

I have a dumb question...what about the ethelyne gas????? Does it affect the flowers?

Back in the day, I made that Teleflora lime one twice, and both times got complaints about the longevity of the flowers (or lack there of). Now I'm gun shy!

The easiest way to do this is to wrap your foam in ti or aspidistra leaves after you have removed the stiff leaf spine.......make sure the space between the glass and the foam is slightly smaller than the width of the slice, then just wedge the slices in and use a bamboo skewer to adjust their position.

You can also do a tight grid tape across to help keep the slices from flating above the glass rim

How about working with the colored foam, behind the slices? Another option.

good luck!

colored foam

tried that...no one around here has it..
would really make life easier wouldn't it ...

Thanks for all the help everyone! I knew I could count on you for great advice. I will be experimenting today with the many suggestions I have gotten.

This is the quickest and best way I have found to use fruit. By the time you try a lot of tricks, you have used up the cost you saved....so, you might as well just invest in a small vase inside a large one.

I feel it is important to keep the fruit separate from any flowers.

By putting the slices in between the cubes, it'll help eliminate the pulp from the lemon/lime from floating in the water. And as Carol indicated, keeping the fruit separate from the fresh flowers.

I've arranged them one day ahead, and it's fine.
