Planning for Floral Summit 2009 is already well underway.

Our location will again be in Toronto, ON, and we're looking for dates that are most accessible to our florists.

I'll post this as a poll, so please vote (don't just comment), and comment (don't just vote :)). We're looking for times away from major holidays and stressors.

Options:
  1. Jan 2009
Pros: Could co-incide with the gift show in Toronto, typically quite time for business
Cons: Could clash with FTD's conference, potential weather issues, post-Christmas / pre-Vday planning
  2. March 2009
Pros: Between Vday & Easter, not much wedding work
Cons: Weather, post-Vday hangover, pre-Easter planning, Michigan & Connecticut shows, family holidays / March break
  3. April 2009
Pros: Better weather, not much wedding work
Cons: Close to Secretary's Day, Mother's Day
  4. May 2009
Pros: End of the floral holiday season, great weather
Cons: Proms, May 24 & Memorial Day Holidays, Wedding Season
  5. June - August 2009
Pros: Slower everyday business, fantastic weather for BBQ
Cons: Weddings, Employee vacations, Weddings, Personal / Family vacations, Weddings
  6. September - October 2009
Pros: Fewer weddings, fewer employee vacations
Cons: Some weddings, Homecoming, Christmas planning* (*Which would benefit from coming to FS'09)
So, what are your thoughts? When is the best time for YOU to come to Floral Summit?

I was so sad I didn't get to go this year!!!! I am still suffering from convention envy!

I agree with everything you posted as far as the pros & cons, except, September & October are a VERY busy wedding time for us.

I would do my best to fit it in no matter what, but that's my thought.

Tomorrow!!
The timing seemed pretty adaptable last weekend, the major "holidays" have passed, and a little pressure & anxiety exists, and having other real florists to network with is very helpful!!

Summer july and august are best in my situation....I can easily close for a few days and noone would miss me greatly...

I chose Jan., Mar. and the summer for all the reasons you mentioned Ryan. :)

Jan, March, October. Possibly July, though I didn't vote for it because the other two months outweigh that option. August is our biggest wedding month, with June a close second.

I really hope to be able to attend, regardless of when it is!

The summit was excellent. Would plan around it. I picked March, and Jun-Aug. Jan is a little too iffy weather wise. But again I would try to plan around it, and say to anyone it is worth scheduling around, by far.

What about...

How about for those who have difficulty with the time and space (distance) a new fangled computer, interactive Summit. Really cutting edge. :SUI:

You know it all depends on business....
WHen I did my show, I found fall as a good choice also.
THen you can do a Christmas type show.
I also like end of may....
THe summer is out because we need to cover holidays, wedding etc
Before a gift show is hard also, as all the time we need is to be at the gift show and extra time is hard to take, especially when they start on sunday.

Doug,

I've given some thought to doing our FS'08 presentations online for those who missed, but I keep having visions of customers coming in, phones ringing, "stuff" happening that "can't" be ignored.

It's almost like we need to get you out of your shop for your own good ;)

I think we wont be able to please everyone.
With that, set up a date and let people who can attend at that time will attend.
One year it may work, another may not...
We just have to play it by ear.

But to have more people from far away, the summitt may have to be 2 days so people spending a decent amount of money on travel and accomodation , will be worth their time and money. Just my 2 cents

Ryan,
Like our brides, everything can be planned in a year (or less if need be).

I voted for Jan (except the last weekend) or March (watch when Easter is falling).

As a wedding & event/party heavy florist, we go full-out from mid to late march until end of October with Weddings. Our Christmas installations and holiday party work generally begin Nov 1.

That being said, with enough advance time & planning, anything is doable -- even if I can just come for 1 day!

Example, the Ohio Short course is scheduled over several days. There is only 1 day that is usually especially devoted to florist things -- ususally on Sunday.

Just my 2 cents, FYI. Sorry I couldn't come this year. We are still waiting for the video (hint, hint).

Again, I will get there no matter when. Weather is the only issue. I think with enough notice most could plan for it, whenever it works out well to do for the organizers.

I voted June-August, but the end of May works for me as well. I don't want to come in the winter, but I am willing to be flexible with the majority. As long as I have enough notice, I can arrange any date selected. Looking forward to visiting beautiful Canada. I have traveled extensively throughout the world, but somehow...never visited Canada!

I agree with Cheryl

My situation is basically the same as Cheryl's - we are booked solid for weddings from mid April or beginning of May through the end of October, so those months are pretty much out of the question for us. I voted for March -- by then we are tired of winter weather, and need something to energize us!

March or the Jul-Aug

Sounds like I missed a top-notch gathering. Would love to know more info from the summit.

Anytime during the year is hard to get away, but it would be best for our shop in March and Jul-Aug, although we seem to have weddings year 'round in the Washington DC area anymore.
