I used to define floral designer as a person who designs flowers now I define it as what I do in between sales ,phone calls, delivery ,customer service ,inventory, management not complaining I think you need to change with the times I love what I do and appreciate the time I get making arrangements.

Back when it was just a job, I called myself a floral designer. Now that it's crept into being a part of my identity, I'm a @##% Florist,Baby!

Oh boy did you hit that on the head Brad...

But first and foremost, I'm a professional floral designer.

Well after looking at all the replies I think Botanical Artist or Designer sounds like just the job for me very chic (if you saw me now sat here with my dinner down my front and my hair all over the place you to would agree I'm VERY Chic !!!). I may ditch the Florist bit. I'll let you know if I'm treated with any greater respect for the title change.

I usually reply " I own a flower shop". I've found people use the terms "florist" and "flower shop" to refer to the same thing, as if a "florist" is a business, not a person.

Since I rarely get my hands wet I don't use the term "floral designer". However, within the industry I refer to myself as a "floral arranger". Most "designers" know what I mean. I can do enough to get by, but I won't be entering the Sylvia Cup.

Don't discount the TMFA after your name!

i personaly don't get the importance of this question...... because after all........after a customer will forget about excellent customer service........after a customer will open up fancy wrapping......after all of this it's the arrangement that will define you....whether you are a floral artist.......or a floral arranger.....or.... just a floral amateur

Owning my shop, I think of myself as a florist who is a professional floral designer. BTW, I have a BA in Fine Arts also.

I am a florist....That is my job....I sell flowers for a living...

I just happen to also be a floral designer because I can take those flowers that I have for sale and manufacture a beutiful arrangement out of them...

For many in the industry these terms are interchangable...for many floral designer just does not fit because they barely know how to arrange, for still many others, florist doesn't even fit because the flowers they have for sale qualify more as compost than flowers...
