FlowerPetal.com Really a Florist in Chicago?

Mr. Crummy's comment about their retail operation (from the comment section of the Scientific American article):

It's funny that their address is not found on their site, and that their call center employees (two with whom I spoke) know nothing about them running a real flower shop operation anywhere.

I would really like to know the truth on this one.....

I never claim to know everything (or even a lot of anything) but I have never heard of this wholesaler...who, is located suspiciously near their "storefront". There are only broken yellowbook listings for that wholesaler. I asked some local wholesalers too and they have never heard of them either. They appear to be a front as well. I will drive by and see what's up tomorrow.

2140 West Fulton Street, Chicago, IL‎ - (312) 563-0400 I saw the same thing as Kath did... no storefront.

FL 15, 200 S. Wacker Dr., Chicago, IL‎ - (800) 959-3341 (clearly in an office building) I checked the building directory, and they listed no such tennant

Ste 605, 36 W Randolph St, Chicago, IL‎ - (312) 251-9550 This building is a theater (Ford theater...where Wicked was until last month...the theater itself is at least 6 stories tall in seats)...they had no tennant list, but the doorman (reception desk guy) looked at me as if I were from Mars when I mentioned the company name. He would not tell me the name of the tennant in suite 605...or if there were any offices on the 6th floor.

None of these locations are listed on the website, and IIRC they used to list a Las Vegas address.

Anybody from the Chicago area aware of them actually delivering flowers these days?

While I was on the west-side checking on the faux store, I also checked out the wholesaler they mentioned and there is NO way this address is a floral wholesaler...crack shack perhaps, but not a flower wholesaler...no signeage, no front door, no customer parking, no vans from other florists picking stuff up, no delivery vans.

Actually, AJF wholesale does exist. I found it the same day I was checking out flowerpetal.com. I don't have the exact address here at home, but it is on Fulton, closer to Ashland. They don't have any signage outside, just two barrels full of flowering branches and lilies. If you don't know they're there, you'll miss it. An Amy's orchid rep. gave me their card at IAFS last year. They have some really nice stuff. Next time I go, I'll ask them about flowerpetal.

Sent them an FTD order that they filled and provided a delivery confirmation as requested when the order was sent. FTD listing says Chicago IL, 60612 Phone 312-563-0400
When they have called to ask if a delivery could be made they are always very polite and clear.
