Foliage differences?

wow!

I have foliage envy!!!! I love to use different foliages and we grow a lot of different varr in the summer. But now it's winter :(

My big problem is our local vendors don't even carry half of what you'll listed. I've resorted to buying foliage plants and cutting them.

and yes, I've begged for mixed boxes = deaf ears. :(
Yeah, Kristine!

Tell your local wholesaler to get it or buy it direct..

These wholesale houses have lost a lot of my business because they wont carry a variety!

We carry mixed boxes and our source will even pack custom boxes for our customers. I agree with you. Wholesalers need to be more to their customers than just a place to buy flowers. You all have a lot of choices.
Customer Service is more important than ever. let me know what you want.

Janna, I see you are with Greenleaf.. I've tried and tried to get certain stuff from greenleaf and I get told "We can only buy from certain farms."

Boooo!

I have even bought from growfloral which I believe is part of greenleaf, but the freight ate me alive.

drama drama drama!!!

It's a crazy business we are in!!

I understand about the freight, it can be ridiculously high. This is a challenge we are all facing every day. I'm not sure why you were told Greenleaf can only buy from certain farms. We buy from many different farms.

If you would like I will be happy to help.

I love foliage, but I'm careful about how much I use. Alot of my customers have fab gardens and they see no value in foliage at all. They ask you to 'stick some foliage in that' then you re-calculate the price and some look at you like you have gone mad. Charging for foliage. What next. Charging for gift wrap and delivery. As I point out we don't get anything for free so we have to charge. We just make sure we use a good balance between flowers and foliage and make it interesting. We never use cuppress for funeral work or asparagus fern or tree fern in bouquets. We use top grade and make it count, we use it to enhance the design not to just bulk it out.

Just wanted to add that i love cut herbs. Rosemary is gorgeous in arrangements, also had cut Thyme.......mmmmmmmm smells wonderful !

me too, have done rosemary in wedding work and it really did look nice.

I buy all sorts of stuff

leather, that usually is used just for funeral stuff
sprial euc
seeded euc
isralie ruscus
italian ruscus
salal
galax, but it seems I'm the only one who uses it,,,and that's ok
equisetum
ribbon grass
steel grass
lily grass, varigated and green
sword fern
hala
flax
huck
ramnus
tall myrtle
oregonia
euro plam
tepe palm
fatsia japonica
monsteria leaves
aspidistra
ti leaves
calathia
plum, but I'm the only one who uses that as well...
cocclus,,,I'm sure I spelled that wrong
asst tropical greens like whale back, fish tail, etc..

We get other stuff too, but that what I have in the cooler right now, except for the euro palm and leather, I ran out of that...

The girls don't like tree fern, but I do
and they don't like ming either, and they all hate leather, except me and my mom

You have all that in the cooler right now, in January? Gosh we look really lame. I think we have leather, seeded, salal, plumosus, tree, emerald (palm), aspidistra and cedar.

Do you use it all timely? I would never move all that in cases, or maybe some is purchases by the bunch, or a mixed case?

The only things I buy by the case is
leather,
isralie ruscus,
sprial euc.

until I find something new and better I like.

Oh, and today we got in a bunch of tropical foliages.

At any one time i have

short ruscus
hard rucsus (i like ruscus)
salall
fatsia
aspidistra
snake grass
short stemmed palms
bear grass
flexi grass
eucalyptus (occasionally i think this is v expensive)

When its wedding season i will have
small pittasporum
large pittasporum
galax
small aspidistra

left over..

I dont stock tons of stuff as i like my waste to be v minimal.

I like Israeli Ruscus, Papoose salal, Lily Grass and tropical greens, sometimes ivy, euc, whatever strikes my fancy... I recently found some umbrella fern at the wholesaler, which I'd never seen before. It was really cool.

I never use leather, tree fern or any of those trailing, pokey, shedding greens like asparagus. I like a clean look if that makes sense.
