For those who were around in the 70's

I concur with Cathy...

The look of arrangements from flower shops in the 70's were the same as in the 60's and 50's so I'm not sure being historically accurate will give you the level of fun you seek for a party. (They may just look like low-priced mass-produced arrangements being sold today.)

Gerbs weren't around, but IMO their psychedelic colors convey the prevailing mood of the day. Just have fun!

SHe always just says it better! Most people who are wanting a themed party, aren't necessarily remembering exact products and designs, but more likely what has become iconical for those periods. Think MOD! and have fun.

My 1973 wedding

August 4th , 1973...mine was a pink rose roundy moundy..with streamers and love knots! The bridesmaids had carnations and baby's breath! What was I thinking?? :wide:

LOL....the word is " WAS"

70's party

Accentuate the extreme for that period. I planned a
70's party & used lots of tye- dyed carnations. Bright florescent containers with psychedelic daisies on them. Also, I went to the thrift store & bought some white pat & leather shoes, the kind the guys wore with their leisure suits in the late 70's LOL,,...filled them with the tri colored carns etc..They were such a hit that we now pass them around for birthdays. Never know when a shoe full of ty dyed carns will appear! BTW high schoolers & young ones love tie dyed carnations. Try to suggest it sometime & watch the excitement! Groovy!!! Good Luck, Debbie

oh yeah, at least you had a church!! We got married under the apple tree in future in-laws back yard....(can you say real "hippie"?)

i'm drawing a blank on roses with their petals flipped back.... what is that name?
French roses? Never did master that without splitting the petals.... unless the roses were a week old to start!

Debbie, do you do this with stem dye? Or spray? I know our little recital girls would love them, and school plays .....

70's Party

Hi Tracy, sorry, I missed this post. I just fluff the carn & spray (w/ Des master or just for flowers)in thirds or quarters. Try not to over lap the colors too much . Use Hot pink , Lime Green, Purple & orange yellows for starters. Experiment...have fun!

My first wedding was in 1978. I wore a white eyelet peasant type dress, with kelly green sash. No veil or flowers in my hair.. just that wispy Farrah Fawcett hairstyle. Bridesmaids wore pink, yellow and mint green ... yes, I know... LOL. Lots of daisies and trailing ivy. We got married under a redwood tree. Had a picnic style reception there on the grass near the redwoods... picnic tables and all... and a bluegrass band!

Memories......

Beth :~)

You looked beautiful. Exactly what a 70s bride should look like, better than one of my friends who got married in "hot pants" often wonder what her children thought when they looked at pictures of their Mum and Dad's wedding, there was he in a suit not disimilar to your husband's and there was their Mum in a pair of white satin shorts!!! :eek:face

My thighs..then...and MOST definetely NOW prohibit even the suggestion of anything above the knee!!!

I don't have any to add to the 70's, but we have a FTD calendar from 1960. They have an arrangement of 11 birds of paradise and a cool piece of a twisted branch, not bad, except they put in a mass of yellow daisies, ugh, now I don't have a problem with daisies, but with birds? One other arrangement has white carns, white tulips and lily of the valley, as if!
