Commissions
When alls said and done. The only person involved with Flowers who will buy the no commission sale is- the consumer.
No florist in their right mind would ever consider handling an order in any fashion without some form of renumeration for their efforts. Call it a commission, or a rebate, or a service fee. Who ever wants the flowers sent is only concerned with an honest, up front accounting for what their paying for.
Charging a fee for sending an order out of town has been a legitimate charge to the consumer for years and years. Even if it were restricted in nature and sums. But it still was a requirement to Itemize the charges. Which, to remind all, is a Consumers legitimate right to recieve.
We spend countless posts going round and round the wire service bush. Worrying about who's getting paid to do what and for whom. and how much it's all worth. All the while the hope remains that the consumers never find out what's really going on. When that is exactly what the consumer needs to know.
Why someone wouldn't charge a fee for sending an order out of town simply blows my mind. Everybody else in the industry from the 800's wires and OGs are getting 10 buck just for placing the order!!!!!!!!!! While we worry about gettting paid for doing the same thing under a given, specific need.
These places get people to pay a privilage fee no matter what.
Try to get your customers to pay a 9.95 privilage fee every time they call. Just tack it on at the end of the sale. See what happens. I suspect, a sence of outrage would accure on the part of the customer. If you agree on that part. Then work that issue and leave the rest to work itself out on its own
The service fee has always been the week point. Has, is and will always be.
Frame the issue in the consumers mind in a way that is easily understood and comprehended.
Press home the fact that your local florist still does the work. So why not just call them in the first place. They don't bite!
We have charged a modest fee for the more than 50 years as a member of a wire service. See no reason to stop that sound sane.
despite the fees, that aspect of the business grew as a result of good service for the money. Untill, that is. the wire services let a bunch of NON FLORISTS into the mix.
We need not wory about defending ourselfs in the market place of Ideas. Without us, they can't function. Increadibly simple concept. Make them defend their exhistance, defend their fees, defend their methods.
Put real teeth into the consept of cutting out the middle man.
