Heard that on our next statement that the clearinghouse charge is going to be higher giving us even less that the 70% or is it 73% that we are suppose to get but really don't??Has anyone heard anything about this increase....if it its true then it really is another nail in the coffin....
Have a wicked head cold so sorry if I seem to be unclear....I feel unlcear and it shows...but this had better only be a rumor.

I heard that they were going to bump up the rate to 9% for florists that were also members of 800 flowers.

I'm not sure that would fly with the FTC if enough florists pushed the issue...BUT....

I can see them following 800F's lead and raising the rate to 9% (with TF close behind) as they are seeing many filler fools sign up to get those incoming 800F orders and the $5.00 outgoing rebate. MOst likely it would be done without any fanfare or notification until it has been done, and probably at a time like a holiday month when florists are not paying attention.

They have seen 800 add a few thousand florists in a couple short years, and at that same rate...so my only question would be whats taking them so long to follow...??

Do they fear there would be a huge backlash and drop in membership? maybe....

Or do they (ftd) think Teleflora would not follow and hence, still the drop in membership? possibly....

Or do they think it would open the door to a more viable option for florists that could be developed with florists best interests at heart? they already opened that door....

I made a couple inquiries last evening on this, no word yet.....

Remember FTd has higher and more membership fees.. than 800flowers.. bumping the rate to 9% would probably kill my participation.what with all the other fees I pay
FWIW

Teleflora alread charges 9% to their small market florists....the ones that pay reduced membership fees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And if you're not careful you will pay more than paying full membership and 7% clearing.

That sure would kill one of the reasons for not joining 800...

Yep. And if history teaches us anything about the FTD management bunch that's been in charge since the buyout . . . it's most likely a DONE DEAL.

After all, they're the best bunch of sharpshooters in the industry. Not one of them has managed to miss his own foot yet.

:FTDme

Confirmed with my FTD statement. Generic letter, black & white.

Fees raised retroactively (Jan 1st) to 9%.

This is one unhappy florist.

Bloomnet has a 9% clearing house. I didn't know that. I can see this as a stepping stone. Eventually all of the wire services will charge 9% from everyone. AFS actually did this shortly before they were bought. Glad I have a credit card with good rewards. :)

Just like the FROG

It's like lulling the frog into comfort........as you are slowly raising the temperature of the water. Raise the temp to fast...and they frog will jump out.

I wish they would just bump it to 25% instead of 9%. Maybe THEN florists would jump out in stronger numbers.

Don't ask why a FROG in a boiling pot of water......ask why are florists lying in a boiling pot of water.

So then my guess is that because FTD will be following 1800flowers model then those FTD members will also be able to submit in writing to FTD that effective January 1st our new fees will be

Our membership fee will be adjusted to the same rate as 1800flowers.

A 50cent confirmation fee for every confirmend delivered order.

No more high priced contaners

No more $1 charge per order on orders sent using mercury systems.

No recipocity fees.

For orders sent over bloomnet (oops I meant mercury) I will accept a $5 rebate for each order sent.

And anything else that I may have forgotton about because I am no long an FTD member or 1800flower member.

Very true, Eric. FTD is not at all competitive with Bloomnet on the other fees. BN is a performance based fee system that rewards the WS based on how many orders they send to the florist. Let's see if FTD is willing to match that!

It almost feels like they may be testing the water.
I spoke to FTD aboout this Monday, and currently their thoought is, that if a florist is willing to pay 800 9% then they shouls be willing to pay FTD the same...some florists I have spoken to think this could be grounds for a trial, but we all know that if it came to that, then FTD would raise it for everyone.

As it stands now they **say** they have no intention to raise the rate for anyone else, but we all know the road to hell is paved with good intetntions and their word carries little creedence these days...double speak is double speak....

Just a theory but a 'competitor-specific penalty' seems pretty dicey.

Look for some shuffling of letters back and forth between the two teams' lawyers followed by an announcement that FTD was 'forced' by that nasty other company to raise the fees to all florists 'to be fair'.

This will be followed shortly by an announcement out of LA that fees will brought to a level 'consistent with the industry standard'.

Just some wild speculation...

I don't see it wrong that a company charges one fee to some customers and another fee to other customers. Hasn't this been happening all along in the Florist business. Some customers get better rates on credit cards, dues,
containers etc.
It happens every day in other business also. Hotel rates, airlines etc.

David -

Try making a reservation at Hilton and having them say, "Did you stay at a Marriott during the last month?"
"Why?"
"Because we'll assess a $5 surcharge."
"Well I didn't, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn. Are you still gonna charge me?"
"No, we are only penalizing Marriott customers."

How does FTD know who the heck is a member of Bloomlink or not? It's not their data. How are they even legally permitted to have a 1800 proprietary directory in their possession from which to pull the info?
