How about a little blogger link love for this poor soul's tale of being fooled by an FTD product photo.

FTD Fail

What he was sold

ftd.jpg

What he got

ftdFail.jpg

What he learned

  1. NEVER shop at FTD.com again. Not only do they give you crappy flowers, they try and get you to sign up for this even crappier thing called Reservation Rewards, which is basically a scam that takes $10.00 from your credit card or bank account (whatever you paid FTD with) under the guise of some kind of travel benefits, and doesn't notify you at all until you see it on your statement and call them to cancel it. Any company that would associate itself with such a shady undertaking is equally shady.
  2. Buy flowers locally. You know what you're getting, and you're likely supporting a local business.
  3. NEVER shop at FTD.com again. It was worth repeating.

It would be interesting to know who filled this order, this honestly doesn't look like anything any professional florist would send. It actually doesn't look like anything even a crappy florist would send. It looks like something from a grocerystore dropped straight into a vase.

Stink stank stunk

Very depressing. FTD is doing a great job at getting the public to never send flowers as a gift. They should get out of the business of flowers completely. It makes all florists look bad whether you're a member or not.

I'm suspicious also. I've never seen something go out like that from any florist.

I've seen it many times. But again, I'm a delivery guy, so I have more opprtunities to observe someone elses work. There are a few "florists" around here (don't PM me because I won't tell) that no one should ever use IMO.

Anyone with a plastic bucket and some water can be a member of FTD. But yes, it may have been altered to look even crappier or drop shipped and thats how the guy put it together before taking the pic. My guess is drop shipped.

Not to defend FTD, trust me I would never do that. But it does say very clearly on the website and order page that this arrangement will be shipped in a box. So this customer ordered a drop ship arrangement. It also states that the picture (the one that he put in his blog) is the upgraded version which he did not pay for.

I am only pointing this out so that we can have faith in the fact that this did not come from a florist shop anywhere.

But... I wonder if this was direct ship or if a local florist filled the order? If the latter what does that say about the local florist?

Ok, I read the guys blog, yes it was drop shipped and yes that is how he put it together. But look, it still sucks that this is what the public thinks when they think of flowers being sent and they are angry enough about it to blog to the world. Its bait and switch, false advertising, what FTD does the very best.

I literally burst out laughing when I saw that arrangement.

joe

btw, some "florist" paid good money for that extra 30 cms of stem. They didn't want to waste it by cutting the arrangement down in size.

FTD.com gets what they deserve.

Seconding that..it is drop ship only, not from a real florist.
and I don't think he stated that in his blog either. But he did state FTD florists....(he doesn't know FTD isn't a real florist)

Just went to the link in the original post, looks like it was a special that came in a box and the recepient arranged it himself....figures

These drop-sh!tters should at the very least be forced to put a disclaimer that assembly is required.

I just don't think the general public understands that they will be getting "raw" flowers not cut to the right length, not arranged in any way. I think they somehow think the flowers will be in the vase, just like the pic. They don't explain well enough that that is not the case, thus making the public wary of flowers and florists in general. It would be nice if they were forced to include a photo showing what IS in the box. Vase, flowers laying next to the vase, etc.

Talking about drop shipping nightmares...a local funeral director told my husband that people have been sending these boxed flowers to FUNERAL HOMES, and the directors then are responsible to arrange the flowers!!!
Talk about the HEIGHT of tacky!
Sad thing is, those customers never complain~who are you going to complain to???

There's a place on the blogger's page to post a reply. If we went to let people know the difference between drop ship and local independent full-service florists then let's all go there and comment. Just follow the link in the original post on this thread

Our local funeral director doesn't put these arrangements together or even remove them from the box. He just hands the box to the family as is. He said he wants people to understand what they are paying for and see what they get in it's virgin form. I even had a person who ordered a drop ship to go to the funeral home show up and upon not seeing anything from them asked the funeral director where it was and he handed them the box. They were so embarrassed that they brought it to me (I am just a block away) and offered to pay me to do something with it. I did the best I could with what was in the box and then added and subtracted until I had something nice for them and did it at no charge. They are now good customers of mine. Happy ending for me and indecent exposure for Proflowers!
