FTD Fail

Are you kidding me? FTD.com is marketing - via Netflix according to the blogger - an 'arrangement' that's not intended to be delivered 'arranged', and not by any local florists. Ever.

They're currently relying on the brand reputation of florist delivery to mislead, and "bait and switch", to a high profit margin drop-ship item.

And once again I say that when the truth about what they really deliver gets a bright light, they'll change their marketing and let consumers decide if they want the embarrassment as shown on that page.

IMO we look really bad when we try and hide or ignore customers with legit gripes brought on by deceptive advertising.

FTD represents FTD and sullies the reputation of every florist member by putting out junk like that.

opinions vary.....

And once again I'll say that spreading negativity about any facet of the floral industry spreads negativity about us all.

Your last sentence agrees with that.

That's the reason not to propogate the story.

Saw a ProFlowers box at a funeral a couple months back. Sad...

What's even sadder is that someone would be that cheap to save a buck on flowers for a FUNERAL !!!

- H.

And you know Herb - what's even sadder is by the time you pay all the fees associated with a PF purchase you spent just as much anyway. $29.95 my ass.

That says something, and it's not flattering to the tastes of the consumer. MOF I'm afraid it speaks volumes.

Speaking about sending boxed flowers to a funeral, Frances Porterfield-Dudley of Florist's Review wrote about that in her editorial once. I'll have to scour my back issues and see if I can find the editorial. But, a relative of hers passed, and a box of flowers was sent by a friend of Ms. Dudley's. When this friend was asked about it.....I remember the reading the reply. "I thought it was a more sophisticated way of sending flowers. "

bloomz, your post speaks volumes about what has happened to the consumers expectations.

The likes of PF, FTD.con, 800 have lowered the price prespectative of the average consumer. A dozen roses is now only supposed to be worth $19.95. And that box of flowers sent to a funeral was most likely shown arranged in a vase when it was sold to the consumer, so it made perfect sense to the sender. Now if the sender never was able to attend the funeral, everything was probably fine in senders eyes. If they did attend and it didn't look like the picture, they probably complained and got a refund. In the consumers mind they won either way.

And in the consumers mind, the problems were the fault of the flower industry as a whole because they view all of us in the same boat.

Call CBS News - Fox and bloomz agree on something.

Exactly so - and - the buyer likely has no idea they don't come arranged thru some feat of magic.

I don't know how FTD ships those Todd Oldham or Vera Wang bouquets - I'm guessing *somehow* they come arranged but how does the mechanics of shipping it work?

If I'm a florist and don't understand this the public sure doesn't.

Not to defend FTD, trust me I would never do that. But it does say very clearly on the website and order page that this arrangement will be shipped in a box. So this customer ordered a drop ship arrangement. It also states that the picture (the one that he put in his blog) is the upgraded version which he did not pay for.

I am only pointing this out so that we can have faith in the fact that this did not come from a florist shop anywhere.
people never read

here we go again....for the most part, customers do not or cannot read english....whats pictured, most likely is an upgrade cut way down and put in the vase facing forward (one sided) for photo purposes.

the customer purchased the $19.99, didnt realize they had to arrange themselves.....they didnt bother to cut the flowers to fit the vase

Just thought it was a funny picture, and "one sided for photo purposes".

Look at the advertisement again
. No matter how you cut it, it's misleading.

I count 2 dozen flowers plus fillers.

The small print doesn't say anything about an upgrade, and it doesn't say, not exactly as shown, or have any sort of disclaimer on it what-so-ever.

in no way am i sticking up for ftd....but the fact is, people dont read...im guilty myself..its like on the internet where you have to accept the terms and conditions and its like 45 paragraphs....what do you do???? you do what they all do, scroll to the bottom and click on accept

they are minis, cushion and buttons......nice minis may have 5-7 blooms per stem.....the make the majority of their net on the service charge and upgrades/add ons

I agree with you, I also do the same thing. (Ignore the Ts and Cs)

But none of the companies where I have had my name on the business card would so blatently mislead the consumer this way.

Why should flowers be any different than any other market?

Sale on stylish, leather jacket, zip on/off sleeves. 50% OFF!*

...At the checkout...

*Sleeves, zippers, lining and service fee are extra
.

**You can leave now, but don't forget, we already have your email address, home address, phone number and credit card information.

An uneducated public, and the FTD brand name are carrying them and all the others.

LOL, while most of the blame should be on the sellers, the uneducated/ill informed public shares in some as well

I guess they call that marketing in the modern world.

But Caveat Emptor is not a new saying, is it?

So - the new owner made it more plain that they would be shipped in a box, but...the picture still looks the same to me.

Sees sorta kinda like they should show them in a box?

People don't read, that's a fact, and that's also really not the marketers fault.

PS that Bernard stuff went WAY over my head - aren't we talking about a simple vase (or box) of flowers?

On second thought - we do have a president pretty famous for deceiving the public as well, don't we.

I knew it!

It's Bush's fault.
