how do i go about getting rid of the reciprocity fee.??i think that this is like being held up without a gun

This is the reply I got from FTD regarding fees and how to go about reducing them:

"Low sending is for sending less than 20 outgoing.
Reciprocity is for getting more than 4:1 incoming vs outgoing.
Both are designed to encourage sending.
IF you do not have 20 outgoing orders AND you are sending at least 50 percent ftd outgoing, we can look at reducing these fees.
I need copies of your other wire services to send to my boss to make and adjustments."

I don't know if it helps. We hardly do any wire outs so we are stuck with those fees as long as we have FTD.

Are we safe to assume that you are a member of more than one wire service?

Like they mimic the words they are told from their superiors when they talk, evidently, when they type they have to copy something in front of them.

Seems they are not allowed to have a mind of their own.
 
Yes. Member of all big 3. We bought the business just over a month ago and inherited the previous owner's liabilities. I am still looking into making these wire services somewhat profitable and also increase walk in business as before it was almost non existent.

Wow, why did you agree to take over the wire service memberships? Start dropping and see $$ going strait to the bottom line.

Well, I can drop these services, I am not tied in or anything and bloomnet or still very profitable for us. The worse one is FTD and Teleflora follows second. I have posted letters to them to cancel all undesired services so we will see how that goes. We got the shop relatively cheap since it wasn't making a lot of profit - now I can see why - and I hope that we will be able to turn it around!:)
 
Ya know what just amazes me - I' ve been telling the WS their business model is not working (at least for the florist) for years, and they haven't changed a thing! They can't be unaware of the hundreds of florists who have quit. They can't claim they don't know what's going on. I'm dumbfounded by their lack of insight into the future of their own business. They continue to bite the hand that feeds them, and for some strange reason, the dummies are still in business. How is this possible? We quit FTD last month, and I'm seriously thinking about quitting TF. At worst, it means I'm done with the real work earlier in the day. Just once, I wish one of the top executives would explain why they do business the way they do. They can't be making real money - they change hands every few years when the owners become discouraged. God help us if the Government hands them bailout money! It seems to me that they are paralyzed.

Bloomzie and D, I can't see why any shop would want to be FTD, TF has a larger directory.

Earlier this year, I amused toto with a FTD v tf member directory pic, where I showed the FTD at so many inches. the new directory got smaller. After the wedding stuff tomorrow I will post a new picture.

You both know where I stand on WS business, FTD isn't profitable for me and it will continue to be less and less profitable for other shops as their member data base decreases.

Besides, when was the last time a person under 45 came into your shop to order an Outgoing WS order?

At the moment... but that does not mean they are not evil!

I would be Teleflora ONLY if they were not technologically challenged...but as my business morphs on down the road, it's becoming apparent that I really don't need any of them, and in time I won't have any of them.
 
there's definitely coverage issues with FTD at this time, I'm NOT sure it's "repairable", however, THAT'S NOT the only problem.....seems that certain segments of FTD just DON'T give a hoot anymore.
Even Domestic Retrans, the "saviour" of non coverage, is failing at a growing proportion in getting orders out.....wind up having to do them myself!!
The other "surprising" thing, is that in the last little while, calling shops directly, has GREATLY IMPROVED the customer satisfaction, from OUR end, when there was some question, as to whether the order COULD EVEN be filled.
FTD has gone through TOO MANY ownership changes, for them to even remotely consider themselves as world class contenders, BUT, I GOTTA TELL YOU, the REMAINING SHOPS that are STILL members, are probably the ones we started OUT with, and we're NOT getting the "riff-raff" complaints from senders that we USED to get about lousy service and quality at the OTHER END.
I really can't blame the wire services for NOT giving a shyte about florists....florists are largely to blame, for the position that we are in right now, and EVERY SINGLE wire service "warned" REAL FLORISTS that changes were imminent, and the rest is history.
Do we need a wire service....I DO!!...do I HAFTA have 'em...sadly NO...it's a piss poor way of making any money, and frankly, I just DON'T trust them anymore...ANY OF THEM!!

But how do you know you get your orders through ASB listings?

...in responding.

I find out by doing a search of the town name. That gives me every order that went to that town in a given date range. Then, pull out the FTD orders (via Customer). Those orders most likely came via an ASB listing.

This will be harder to do this summer, as Mercury X does not have the search power that Advantage had, but I think I know a way...

To cover the cost of the "service" they provide when they have to use the corporate credit card?

No thanks...been avoiding DomRet for over a year. Do a search, put it on your own credit card, and collect the points!
