Here's a complaint from Consumerist.com yesterday: FTD Sent My Girlfriend Wilted Flowers and Too Few of Them

What he bought: Sweet Splendor Bouquet

What he got:

not%20so%20sweet.jpg

Anybody got the recipe for that arrangement?

The comments below the article are very supportive of ordering direct from local florists. Add your .02 if you have insight into the difference between the FTD photo and what was delivered.

IMO the florist added greens to try and make the bouquet biggter and to give support during delivery. Looks to me like the stem counts are about the same.

Thoughts?

IMO, poorly arranged for the mounded look of the item that was ordered, and yes, with more greens showing in the delivered arrangement. Also, given the popularity of cubes, I would think most florists would have plenty on hand for the holiday.

You are right Cathy, the greens change it completely as we all know, especially in photography. Also, the backdrops are almost exact opposites. I would not say it is poorly designed, I am sure it didn't look so dark in person. Also was impressed with the exact same flowers used. The vase is really too bad, especially since the ribbon gives the arrangement a sweet look. I am seriously hoping that the color of the countertop is what makes the water look so bad. I don't see the wilted flowers, though, which was part of the original complaint if I remember right when the link to the complaint was originally posted. Most of the time, it is almost impossible to replicate an arrangement to match a primped image and IMO, the florist did a fair job.

For such a simple arrangement to get screwed up, it makes me wonder how the filling shop was ever qualified to become a member.
No wonder we are all worried about sending our orders to another shop to be filled.
Imagine if it was a difficult arrangement?
And really, I doubt this has anything to do with not recieving 100% of the money, this is just poor work all around.

Where's the cube?

Poor construction~! Poor display~! CONsumer got burnt~!

i would so love to know is that ftd arr is supposed to be all around with all the flowers shown on the front side. That is the MO for TF> If that is the case, I wonder if the florist used the greens to fill in to keep in the price point. Also, did the florist ask FTD for subbing on the container and get an OK?

I am not condoning what they sent, they should have just refused the order. Then the guy would have been doubly PO'd when she didn't get anything......

though the recipient's picture doesn't "match", the photochopped catalogue pic, here's a bit of an eye opener.....the "cube" design is not easily done by many "florists", and it's often that the stems are too long, to give it that "fullish" look.
Betcha we could take the SAME number of stems, and make it into something a little more appealing, however, I WOULDN'T jump on the filling florist just yet...this "may" just be one of those consumers that "expects" that warm, air brushed "exactly" as shown expectations!!
Younger people., whether consumers, or not, have NO clue, many are in the "zero" range,as to what "reality" over "fantasy" really is!!

IMO the design is poor, even though they used same flowers, it was not designed right, looks like my 6 yr old son made it! The angle of photo is bad and quality of photo doesn't help the cause of the filling florist, but they should just reject orders like these if they cannot design them correctly. JMO

However, with that being said, these cubes are tricky to deliver too, even if the design was perfect and just like picture, my guess is, after it was wrapped and sent on delivery, it could very easily shift around and mess the design up. Not everything that leaves our store , ends up looking the same, when the recip receives it, especially pool deliveries and rushed holiday deliveries by extra temp drivers. Cube vases are tricky to deliver sometimes, especially the 4" cubes, we try to use 5" and up, whenever possible.

Can someone post the exact recipe?

Cathy, I've been through all my workbooks and it isn't in there. It must be one of their web specials where the recipe is on their ftdi site.?

Oh and a round container was delivered not a cube. That in itself lends a different view (I do think poor mechanics aided in the poor picture as it could have looked fine when it left the shop but got jostled around during delivery or after delivery)

The only thing I found was very similar but in pinks and whites "Sweet Surprise" -
small 3 stems spray roses, 3 stems mini carnations, 2 stems daisies, 2 stems leather 3" cube medium 5 stems sprays, 4 stems minis, 4 stems daisies
Largest is in a 5" cube with 8 stems spray roses, 6 stems of minis, 6 stems of daisies, & 3 leather

finally found it and the recipe is exactly as I posted before just different colors between the "Sweet Surprises" and "Sweet Splendor"

The hits just keep on comin! Quote from the latest update...

Then she profusely apologized after I said either the florist delivers my bouquet I ordered per your website or give me all my money back and I will re-order through Proflowers.
Google a florist and call directly dummy!

Agreed, 3" cube isn't even in my inventory and as always "faux" feeling of flowers to the front. Complaint waiting to happen at those price points.

That poor florist, like the majority of them out there, probably thought she was improving the bouquet with her added touches of greenery, etc.

Artists (and I use this tem loosely) all see things differently.

Unfortunately, there are so many designers that don't have a clue or taste and I don't see that changing.
